International Signing Day: Results, Rumors, Spec

So three of the five Red Sox former signees have signed with other teams. Only one of the remaining two is highly regarded, and he was #15 on BA last year.

The bad news is Ben Badler says the Padres and Marlins have been heavily connected to him. No idea why we wouldn't be since we are already over budget.

We did great, and there's 28 MLB who are probably jealous of what we were able to do on the international market, but I still feel somewhat let down. Just me being greedy.

Wish we could have landed a few more 2-25 type guys and would have pounced on one of the Red Sox holdovers. I wonder if we hit a bit of a spending limit.

Yes. I agree. I think my expectations were too high hearing about this signing period for so long. Matlin was assumed for so long I think the excitement wore off months ago. I know rankings do not matter but I am tired of losing and seeing the Padres do what they did does make me jealous.

I'd guess that we are close up to hitting the limit in our international budget and that Coppy prefers to keep the rest of the budget ready for some of the Cuban's price tags to drop later this signing period.

One Vlad Gutierrez please.. or just steal Ona when he is able to sign.

Sign Ona, but not Ono. Ono would break up the Braves.

In an interview with Bill Shanks, Gordon Blakeley mentioned that there are two international players we are still pursuing. Both have yet to turn 16, but will in the current period. One a SS, and the other an SP. I assume the SP referenced is del Rosario.

Yenci Pena is the SS.

Four of five liberated Red Sox rookies have landed elsewhere:

Alberto Guerrero: Marlins (NA)
Eduardo Torrealba: Yankees ($300 K)
Antonio Pinero: Brewers ($375 K)
Simon Mozziotti: Phillies ($750 K)

I firmly believe the 2016 IFA class has a chance to be legendary relative to the history of the Atlanta Braves.

We get a little bit of everything. We landed catchers, headlined by a guy compared to Piazza. We had a tremendous infield haul, headlined by a guy compared to Sano, Cabrera, and Chipper Jones. We landed three young outfielders. We landed 4 young arms.

I made this list because I didn't see a comprehensive list in this thread (and I like making lists):

C- Abrahan Gutierrez
C- Adrian Adrianza
C- Victor de Hoyos
2B/SS- Livan Soto
SS- Yunior Severino
SS- Braulio Vasquez
SS/3B- Kevin Maitan
SS/3B- Yenci Pena (not official yet because he's still 15)
OF- Antonio Sucre
OF- Jefry Ramos
OF- Franger Carrillo
RHP- Juan Contreras
RHP- Yefri Del Rosario (not official yet because he's still 15)
RHP- Guillermo Zuniga
LHP- Lisandro Santos

I think we should term this group, "The Fabulous Fifteen."

Add these guys on top of the 2016 draft class (Ian Anderson, Joey Wentz, Kyle Muller, Brett Cumberland, Drew Harrington, Bryse Wilson), the 2015 IFA class (Derian Cruz, Christian Pache, Juan Morales, Randy Ventura), the 2015 draft class (Kolby Allard, Mike Soroka, Austin Riley, Lucas Herbert, A.J. Minter, Anthony Guardado, Patrick Weigel, Jonathan Morales) and all of the guys for whom we've recently traded (Dansby Swanson, Sean Newcomb, Touki Toussaint, Max Fried), and we're staring a World Series right in the face.

That's not even mentioning the following prospects:

Aaron Blair, Ozzie Albies, Braxton Davidson, Isranel Wilson, Juan Yepez, Ronald Acuna, Raysheandall Michel, Max Povse, Dustin Peterson, Lucas Sims, Steve Janas, Chris Ellis, Rob Whalen, John Gant, Rio Ruiz, Ricardo Rodriguez, Akeel Morris, Ricardo Sanchez, Joey Meneses, Zachary Bird, Paco Rodriguez, Shae Simmons, Johan Camargo, Andrew Thurman, Wes Parsons, Leudys Baez, Connor Lien, Matt Marksberry, Jason Hursh, Kyle Kinman, Sean Godfrey, Phillip Pfeifer, Caleb Dirks, Adam McCreery, Sean Ratcliffe, Jed Bradley, Jordan Edgerton, Brad Roney, Luke Dykstra, Ray-Patrick Didder, and Chad Sobotka.

Then consider the young guys already on the roster: Mike Foltynewicz, Matt Wisler, Tyrell Jenkins, Ian Krol, Mauricio Cabrera, Hunter Cervenka, Daniel Winkler, Mallex Smith, and Jace Peterson.

And we are going to get a HAUL for Julio Teheran and possibly some other guys.

And then we are going to have the number 1 pick in next year's draft, most likely.

I haven't been this excited since Opening Day 2003. We have the best farm system in baseball. The only thing we are really lacking is a can't miss ace like a Kershaw (there aren't many) or a generational power threat like Bryce Harper (there aren't many)
