Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

I didn’t think BL had room in that dome for another unhealthy obsession. I really thought Trump owned all that real estate

Just singing along with the free speech chorus. Some of the regulars seem to have lost their voices.

Once upon a time y'all were all over that. To me it is up to owner how to run his business. No one is entitled to any sort of platform.

Elon’s acquisition of Twitter is a giant funhouse mirror to show how similarly annoying the left and right are.

I have especially enjoyed everyone discussing their exodus to Mastodon on Twitter. See resident board favorite Paul Krugman. It reminds me of the exodus to Parlor back in 2020. It warms my heart to see the 2000’s message board culture back with their see ya space cowboy posts.

the seemingly arbitrary suspension of accounts...there are tons of accounts impersonating famous and not-so-famous people that go unmolested

What accounts are being suspended? The one you showed I can't even look at it because it's protected.

We've spoken a lot about this in political correctness thread and a few others.

I'm fully aware that this notion will be mocked and dismissed, but I'd welcome any data that can be presented, any thoughtful commentary on specific examples posted, and whether or not open and free speech is at risk in the US. The majority of examples I come across are leftists trying to shut down conservative speech, but if you come across the other way around, please post it.

Note - I do not contend the government is oppressing free speech. For the great majority of examples I've seen and will post about, the action is legal. My question would be whether or not it is healthy and protects free speech throughout our society.

I contend we're slipping down a path where certain (non-controversial) opinions are being silenced. Would love to discuss it on the board if you think it's a worthwhile topic.

I support all censorship of leftists

duly noted

I believe companies have the right to do whatever they want... They can restrict all speech that they want.

I don't believe companies should do this, because it doesn't establish a respect for all speech in this country.

interesting evolution...bolding supplied by the poster

I believe you are also on record as an enthusiast for measures to suppress the votes of people you disagree with.

Much like how you used to care about norms and science and data... I used to care about treating communists with respect.

But after ruining a generation of kids, an economy, firing thousands of people and killing thousands more... I want revenge and I want pain inflicted on you
