Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

Uhhhhhhh AWS is Amazon Web Services

sorry for not being up on your acronyms...what can i say

but yeah based on the violent threats and other things happening in parler i think their decision not to host them is defensible...easily

At a town hall meeting on Wednesday, WRCB reporter Meredith Aldis wanted to ask Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) a question about the fierce blowback she has faced this week over old social media posts that promoted baseless claims and endorsed violence.

But when Aldis tried to ask her question at the meeting in Dalton, Ga., Greene rebuffed her.

“I’m talking to my constituents,” Greene said, refusing to listen to the reporter’s question or offer any response.

Then, staffers from Greene’s office told the reporter she had “caused a disturbance” and demanded that she and her team leave, WRCB reported Wednesday night. A sheriff’s deputy threatened to arrest Aldis and her crew for trespassing at the public town hall, which reporters had been invited to attend, the station reported.

I can't stand Greene, but every Republican should treat the press as the enemy at this point.

Seems to me Meredith Aldis was just trying to do her job. Greene can do what she wants too. But the sheriff's deputy seems to have overstepped in threatening to arrest Aldis for trespassing. That would be an example of the government violating our constitutional rights.

I know I know "they can do whatever they want"

Nothing to see. No problems with any of this. The real threat is disrupting that sweet sweet covid narrative

Did you miss the last 4 years? I just wonder how anyone could report fairly about people who call them every name in the book and openly try to incite violence against them. The press deserves a medal for putting up with the Trumps ****.

No they got plenty of stories handed to them on a silver platter and free roam to take liberty with whatever they wanted with no recourse.

That is freedom, material, and wealth that most pleebs of the US of A will never know.

Yeah, uh.... are you new here?

I'm trying to point out there are ACTUAL violations of our rights and FAKE violations that are really just things people around here object to. Sorry if I have been too subtle in my little crusade.

Most of this thread consists of posts about FAKE violations of free speech. What Justin Amash has referred to as a hyper exaggerated sense of victimhood. Grievance and victimhood is strong on these boards.

I'd say ordering your way of life to be shutdown under threat of fines or jail would qualify. Just my .02 though.

Next time you go for a drive you might want to familiarize yourself with speed limits and other rules of the road imposed upon us by governments, enforced by fines and jail time depending on the violation. It is a parallel I would draw with trying to navigate our way through a pandemic that has killed about half a million people in this country. ymmv

On the other hand, a sheriff's deputy threatening to arrest a reporter strikes me as a violation of our constitutional rights with no compelling public interest that could possibly justify it.

Trying to compare Robin Hood and social media as equal for their actions

There is a term for that

Oh yeah

False equivalency

I'm assuming the reviews came via bots. I'm not shocked that there's no details here. Odd that review bombing didn't happen in Apple and no one is reporting on it. Probably because they don't allow as easy access as google does to their review system.

There were a LOT of pissed off customers today and I presume they wouldn't be leaving an unfair review

Speed limit does not equal shutdown.

It’s like removing the entire engine overnight
