Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

Twitter can ban customers based on political disagreements.

But a baker Cannot refuse a single service based on religious differences.

So yeah... Is free speech under attack in this country?

i don't believe twitter has banned anyone for their political views

it would wrong for either twitter or the baker to refuse service based on things like race/sex/religion/sexual orientation

it's not that complicated

When a private business does something you dont like, its an attack on human rights.

When a private business does something you do like, its their right.

But please be excited and aware about about the acceleration of platforms banning speech they dont like. I post on these boards to drive awareness of it happening. But I understand it's falling on deaf ears bc your political beliefs are naturally authoritarian (you are a leftist afterall). You proved this daily during covid with your lust for lockdowns and embracement of unscientific data to justify. Deza is a good word, I think.

Trying to beat you over the head with the accelerated slippery slope is not an effective strategy so I'll leave it alone.

Btw I want to stand up for Kurt Schilling's free speech rights. I don't think political views and speech should affect how people vote for Hall of Fame candidates.

As much as I disagree with some of what he has said, he would be on my ballot if I had one.

I think my views on the baker and twitter are pretty consistent. Neither should discriminate based on sex/race/religion/sexual orientation.

Should and can are two different arguments, right?

It has been my position the entire time. Just because a business can do something doesn't mean it should

Oh well. They will do what they want. Just make sure you don't have the wrong opinion one day.

The Supreme Court would probably rule against twitter being able to discriminate on those grounds. The baker got away with it cuz the commission in Denver were not nice enough to him. It is one of the most bizarre Supreme Court explanations in recent memory. I guess the takeaway is be nice and respectful to bigots before you rule against them.
 
I saw a Missouri gun shop announced they will not sell product to Biden supporters. Because Biden supporters support policies that put their family at risk.

I have no doubt nsacpi disagrees with this. But hey, its their right

My initial reaction is idiots gonna be idiots. I doubt they sell anything other than **** that no one would be interested in buying. And I guess they will be able to identify Biden supporters by counting how many teeth they have.

But as a reminder, in post 1883 i made the point that twitter has not banned anyone for their political views.

It's not about political views. Its about inciting violence.

You see, twitter banned a whole bunch of people for that reason... even the pillow dude. It had nothing to do with his politics, sure sure

But Biden supporters supported BLM riots. They support disarming people with new gun laws. They support defunding police. They support ending cash bail. You see, they are inciting violence against people.

And this gun shop doesn't wanna associate with those customers.

I'm glad you are fully supportive of their rights as a private business to disassociate with viewpoints and actions that are inconsistent with their core beliefs.

You'll have to help my simple brain understand how this is any different than Apple, Google, and Amazon colluding together to no longer do business with Parler bc they didn't want to be associated with its users. They made a blanket call, not an individual one.

You supported their right to collude and do that... so why can't a gun shop do the exact same thing?
