Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

This is where we need presidential leadership. Elon has done nothing wrong and is being harassed by a foreign country because he won't play ball with them. Of course I think our current leadership agrees with Brazil.

It’s just not that hard to see why it doesn’t take a vast conspiracy for advertisers to not want to work with Twitter right now.

Why aren't advertisers leaving facebook/IG which facilitates child exploitation?

I don’t dabble much in fb these days, but I’m guessing it’s still true that child exploitation is not being promoted to me on my feed.

And was the post above in your X feed or the person bitching about it because they are trying to present X in a negative light?

Wait - Don't answer that question because we all know the answer.

This particular post was not in my For You feed, but I’ve personally seen multiple tweets worse than this show up in my feed. Usually with about 500,000 to 1,000,000+ views.

OMG - How annoying!

I'm sure the child exploitation (which has been shown for IG over and over) gets millions of views as well so keep your fake outrage at the door.

Maybe you just don't use IG (as you said you don't use FB as well) so you aren't aware but just assume they are the "good ones".

I’m not pro-Meta by any means, but I don’t understand the situation to be that major companies were having their ads served alongside questionable content to a large scale.

Here’s an example of one I was fed right next to an ad for Netflix.

If I click on it, the second tweet I see below it is for the official Little League account.

Your whole point is that X doesn’t get advertisers because of content like this. Then I ask you why FB and IG to despite content like this and in some cases much worse.

Why are you always going to bat for tyranny

I don't think I'm going to bat for tyranny. I just think it is interesting that Elon has been so compliant when the requests come from India, Turkey and Germany. It is his company. I don't have an opinion on how he should run it.

You've offered much more criticism of benign things than you do governments censoring people and arresting folks for misgendering people

I believe I'm the only one around here to express doubts about the United States government trying to force an ownership change on tiktok and to threaten to restrict its availability here if that didn't happen. The water's warm in case anyone would like to join me in taking a stand against that particular form of "tyranny."

I was also interested to see the reaction around here to Mark Zuckerberg's letter. To me this was an example of coercion and intimidation by politicians. The letter was clearly a response to pressure and an attempt to appease Jim Jordan and other House Republicans. I guess it is ok when (R) intimidate someone into giving them what they want. Not that Zuckerberg himself is a sympathetic figure. But he made a cynical calculation that they would leave him alone if he gave them some of what they wanted.
