Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

it's so weird that the market of facebook and instagram have to bend to freedom boys regulation or it is considered free speech being under attack

those idiots should just pull themselves up from their own bootstraps

the market has determined they are the trash

they aren't wanted on the private platforms they lie and push bull**** on

and yet you aren't screaming for the business to have the right to now have that garbage and that they should just create their own social network etc

You can't read and you can't articulately make a point anymore

Funny enough that is how the media is reporting it.

I don't think Facebook should be banning anyone.

You don't think a privately traded corporation has a right to control content on their platform? What's next requiring that Fox News have a certain amount of actual news on their broadcasting?

Idk how many times sturg has to say what should be obvious...that there’s a distinction between knowing what someone has the RIGHT to do and having an opinion on what they SHOULD do

they are a business and it is a business decision for them...their fiduciary responsibility is to their shareholders...that's capitalism

Freedom boy with the same responses after crying about “white boy oppression”

facebook is a business trying to maximize their stock price for their shareholders...

as for free speech, it isnt tied to having access to a particular bullhorn or platform...Jones and Farrakhan can continue to espouse their views

Sturg doesn't tend to actually clarify those lines until the hypocrisy of his statement is made.

As far as "should" facebook's market cap in 2018 fluctuated from 359B to 527B. I don't think sturg knows more about how they "should" do things than Facebook themselves. The distinction you're making is even dumber. Reality is that internet has policed itself really well. Despite what the "right" has said. The internet is the greatest free market in the world. But the "right" wants to restrict the market.

Arent people leaving facebook now anyway?

Its a bad sign but hopefully this leads to less usage. I havent logged in for over a year and atopped posting for 3.

Twitter is better but i wish theyd stop banning as well

People are leaving facebook. They're not losing tons of cap though. And Facebook has their tendrils everywhere. People can try and stop using it but most of the users won't leave. They dominated the social media platform in the social media age.

I don’t have a dog in the fight re Facebook and how they decide to run their business, I just feel like I’ve seen that same question asked of and answered by sturg like 15 times when I think it’s clear where he stands

BTW, I’d like to see you support the sentiment that companies themselves know best how to run their business next time someone around these parts is grumping about how much they pay their top executives...

I only gripe about CEO pay when they get paid out when they go bankrupt. Or when our tax dollars are paid to bail them out. I don't care how rich Besos is personally. If I have an issue with that I'll not support said company.

It is amazing that that point is continually lost on those.

Private companies can do what they want. But the largest media company in the world banning certain speech is a troublesome trend and I think we're naive if we think it stops here

We can all be grateful that Gab is there as a platform for all kinds of speech. Jones and Farrakhan will find ways to express themselves. I think it is far from a troublesome thing that Facebook decided to ban them.

The same people who said the Colorado Baker MUST bake a wedding cake are the same people fine with companies banning people.

The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Why is it troublesome? Because it's against what you believe? Why doesn't facebook which isn't actually a true media platform not be afforded the same luxury as News Corp? Do you Fox News shoudl dedicate a primetime block to have a show hosted by a prominent liberal?

One is discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. The other is discriminating against speech it considers hateful and dangerous. Seems like there is a difference to me.
