Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

hold on

i'm still looking for anyone saying that in this thread

i might need more time to find it cause i haven't found it recently

While I don't necessarily agree with banning them, let's not pretend r/the_donald was anywhere close to a place for critical thinking.

The mods of that subreddit routinely banned any outside voice who questioned anything about their messiah. Anytime someone who didn't agree with Trump posted anything reasonable that wasn't trolling they'd get the message "you are not allowed to post in this subreddit" half an hour later.

Weird how sturg never complained then, but complains now that the tech company that was letting those subreddits run wild by banning anyone who disagreed with them are the real bad guys now.

I was banned from a facebook saber analytics baseball group because I posted I bought a chief wahoo hat. It was a fun group to post in for baseball memes and stats, but there were definitely some overly PC guys there who got offended because I bought the hat and showed pics.

After the third time of me posting it they kicked me out.

I didn't cry about it or complain. Just moved on with life. Some members there messaged me and told me it was ridiculous at what happened.

I miss reading the baseball memes from that group, but it has not affected me whatsoever.

The real outrage is the Braves Facebook page posted a rainbow A logo since this was supposed to be Pride week at Truist, as their profile picture and all the comments under it complaining about baseball not politics yadda yadda yadda.

Those are the real snowflakes.

For one, I'm not on reddit and not on those subreddits.

I fundamentally disagree with a subreddit banning someone bc they dont like its politics. That would be like you banning me.

But I REALLY.dont understand how the powerful entity that creates the community is deciding to ban this massive sub reddit... bc I'm pretty sure they have a lot of really sketchy stuff on there.like rape.porn for example

Why do you defend? Why cant you say "this is a step too far"

Because there are more important issues to be discussed.

If the members of the donald are so creative and such, they can just starr their own conservative version of reddit.

But, as we've all said time and time again, a website like that wouldn't be profitable.

If you're never on reddit nor understand how reddit has thousands of thousands of subcommunities, then you probably shouldn't be wagging the finger at everyone.

There are multiple subreddits just like the_donald. R/conservative used to be the refugees of the party, then the donald subredditors flooded that sub and took over and made it the_donald_2 likeESPN and ESPN2.

Besides , a lot of times these aren't perma bans but extended time outs. Reddit afterall does have their own posting guidelines. It's not exactly a free for all.

It seems to me a good liberal person would be "we dont agree with all speech but respect your right to express it"

But nah... ban it.

But let me know when there is a ban on liberal ideology. Like seriously, are there even a single instance we cant point to?

Free speech is under attack in this country and it's getting more aggressive and faster.

But if you think banning people from platforms makes them go away, you're an idiot. They go into a different echo chamber and get emboldened and now they are angrier and more bitter.

That leaves two echo chambers of the extremes. The middle only gets one point of view. And they know better than to speak up in thos society.

You could literally extrapolate and exaggerate this for any of the last 5 years.

2015: How convenient it's all happening before the GOP primaries and during the debates of one of the most important elections ever.

2016: How convenient they're doing this in an election year.

2017: How convenient they're doing this when the economy is going well and it's a year before the mid terms.

2018 how convenient they're doing this in a midterm year.

2019 how convenient they're doing this a year before the 2020 election.

Rinse and repeat.

Its the same non sense for why you couldn't impeach him. If you tried it jn 2017 then it's supposedly trying to reverse the 2016 election.

If you tried it in 2018 then you're playing politics in a mid term year.

If you tried it in 2019 then you're playing politics a year before the next election.

You try it in 2020 and it's political because it's an election year.

Truth is, twitter should have fact checked or whatever not just Trump's but any politicians tweets.

Are they fact checking other politicians?

Any liberal platforms getting banned?

Anybody getting fired for posting something liberal?

You keep defending it... I understand why.

The slope is getting slippier today than it was back when Trump was issuing warnings.

Monuments arent alive. Now they are coming after people. But yeah, I remember a couple years ago when Julio laughed when I said they will tear down the founders

Do you disagree with big tech censoring these voices?

what voices?

i agree with big tech enforcing their terms of service

your false equivalency examples are laughable. "has bernie sub reddit been banned" "do other politicians get flagged on their lies on twitter like donald" lol

you are silent on cops attacking people playing the violin in a park but think this is a real issue is why i think you're a fraud ftr

right.

So you defend it.

If TOS means hate speech and threats of violence must be banned... how has there been no bernie-bros deplatforming?

How is Farrakahn still on there?

Seems like it is targeted. You have literally defended every step of this thread. There hasn't been a single instance where you say "that's too far"

Not one

you really love youtube a lot i guess

and must listen to some incredible morons to be this worked up over them being "silenced"

if only i had you on my side for my banning from twitter and facebook. i was so oppressed during those times

you can report anything Farrakahn says to twitter etc if you think it goes against ToS

really you are just arguing for the right to outright lie and not be checked on it though it seems

freedom boy: is free speech under attack?

reasonable person: yes, like where the cops attacked citizens while playing a violin to honor a person that was killed by cops for no reason?

freedom boy: no, like where hulu takes down an episode or a tag is put on tweets for known lies from people in power!!
