is it too early to speculate how the potential Gwinnett roster might look in April?

Called Up to the Major Leagues
Starters
Wood: here's why it might be possible - options left; get him innings, instead of bullpen duty w/ big club; Freddie Garcia said that he'd rather retire than report to AAA
Hale: no need to rush
Graham: big plans for him
Martin
----------

Relievers
Obisbo
Perez
Jaime
Thomas

Plenty of spots for promotions or major league castoffs.

C
Bethancourt: needs AB's to improve hitting

1B
Mejia: AAAA type player

2B
La Stella: as much adoration as he receives here, they have other options if Uggla falters again

SS
Pastornicky

Serious prospects are at lower levels

3B
Salcedo: despite continued silly posts with the "sell high on Chris Johnson!" this kid isn't ready to step in yet

OF
Constanza: not sure if he has options left
Cunningham: decent glove
Lipka: sink or swim with this guy

I wish him a happy retirement.

I can't promise you this is the Freddy Garcia, but I'm pretty sure it's a Freddy Garcia.

Thomas took pretty well to starting last year. I think he'll be in the rotation in Gwinnett. Martin, Hale, Maya should also be in the rotation. Then one of Northcraft or Schlosser, with the other in the pen.

Pastornicky, Terdoslavich, Cunningham and Constanza are probably battling for the last bench spot on the major league team. The rest should be in Gwinnett.

Others likely to be in Gwinnett: Mejia, Mycal Jones, Tyler Greene, Joe Leonard. Yepez will be there as the second catcher.

Should be some good arms in the pen: Obispo, Jaime, Lamm, Harper, Severino, Hoyt and maybe a couple others who don't make the big league team. Mostly righties. We are a little thin lefty relief.

Hoping Cunningham can snatch the job from Schafer with an excellent spring.

Agreed on Thomas starting in Gwinnett, unless he impresses so much he takes the second lefty spot in our pen. I'd not rule the latter out personally. I also expect Obispo to have another strong spring and challenge for a spot in our pen.

Are there options left on Pastornicky? Terdoslavich has a shot as 5th OF w/ the big club, unless Wren picks up some vet bench help.

Yes, Pastornicky can still be sent to AAA. Varvaro and Gearrin are out of options among relievers though.

Schafer's on a major league deal and Cunningham isn't, so the initial roster decision is pretty much made. But if Schafer has a really bad first half of the season without an injury to "explain" it again I think we'll cut ties. Schafer has the skills to project as a nice 4th OF type player but he has to produce when called upon or the younger guys will get their shot. And there has to be a back up plan if BJ hits .167 again this year.

Think Schafer's the fourth OF and Cunningham has a decent shot at making the team as a 25th man. But I wonder if he isn't better off in Gwinett since the 25th man will barely play.

He is getting some time in the infield. That should help his playing time; but you are right, really. If Schafer doesn't get traded, Cunningham likely wouldn't get as much time as needed. If both have good springs, I would give Cunningham the job and trade Schafer for lefty relief.

Listening to the 1st spring game.
this guy Mejia can swing it a little. Maybe someone offers something for him...

I think the 25th man on the big league club is going to have to have more position versatility than Cunningham, but maybe that's jut me. Has Bonifacio signed with anyone yet?

I think Graham and Lipka both start in AA.

I think Hamilton (1B/DH), Batista (RHP), Severino (LHP), Maya (RHP), Schlosser (RHP), Rodriguez (LHP), Greene (INF), and Lerud (C) are some other names that might show up in Gwinnett.

Yeah, Schafer has speed. It'd be a surprise if he didn't stick around. Cunningham has decent glove, so facing AAA pitching for another season wouldn't do him any harm.

Lynchburg will probably have the best group of prospects. Potentially Sims, Cabrera, Hursh, Parsons, Peraza, Wren, Elander.
