It's official: Aaron Blair being recalled to make his first MLB start

Sure that makes sense, but doesn't that seem a little like putting the cart in front of the horse? A lot has to go right for him to gain super 2 status this year.

Everything you said makes logical sense. I simply just disagree. Maybe in 2018 I'll be mad mad that they made this move when it costs us a couple of million and maybe next June when we have the 2nd pick instead of the 1st. I guess I just don't watch sports the same way as others on this board.

I mean there is the chance that he stays up all year. That is a possibility. However what is the real difference between doing this now instead of a couple of weeks from now (aside from the super 2 status)? You can still get the same enjoyment of watching him on a regular basis without having the negative consequences.

If we are worried about Blair being traded in 5 years because his arbitration number is too high then we have much bigger problems than his call up date being a couple weeks early.

But that is a legit concern.

I'm actually pretty okay with the decision. I feel like pitching is the one area we can afford to do this right now, because with the sheer volume of pitching prospects we have, we probably should get an idea of which ones are going to stick before our 40 man becomes a nightmare.

if you take into account the usual attrition rates for pitching prospects we really don't have a surplus... maybe a very small one at best

I think in general the Super 2 is less of a big deal than losing a year of control by having a guy on the roster from the start of the season.

Eh, he was ok. Only struck out 1. Got bailed out by some double plays. He looks polished and has some great command. Stuff was good, not great. Scouting reports look accurate, more of a dependable workhorse type.
