Sad news

As first reported by Deadline, Lucasfilm has decided not to keep The Acolyte going. While an official reason for the Disney+ show being cancelled wasn’t provided to the outlet, the article does note that while it got off to a strong start when it premiered at the start of June, viewership dwindled in the weeks to follow. It was also mentioned that while The Acolyte earned decent reviews from critics, it was a divisive entry in the canon among fans, to the point that

I don't blame them for putting it out of its misery. I see no reason to believe Headland would be able to make a season 2 that was any more coherent than season 1. She was a terrible, terrible pick to run a Star Wars show.

And Bryce Dallas Howard still can get a Star Wars project of her own.

Have you heard the tragedy of Darth Plageuis the Wise? It's not a story Disney+ would tell you.

Yeah. If not for Manny Jacinto the show would have been unwatchable.

Your standard for unwatchable is probably too high.

Even deleting a great character, the show still would be fine. It wouldn't be great or good but it wouldn't be terrible.

Have you watched some of the really **** shows that have come out? Cause there's some true **** out there.

At least the visuals of The Acolyte were top notch and there were people who clearly cared there.

Acolyte looked cheap as hell man. For a project that had a higher budget than Dune they really wasted their money.

Star Wars shows should be getting HOTD type treatment. HBO level production. Instead we get the power of cancelled.

You won’t convince him because you aren’t SW elite enough to talk to Siskel about it

That isn't some form of amazing visuals.

Compare that setting to the witches castle,

Disney did a much better job with CGI, that's why it's more expensive because of the crazy expensive ILM costs. Which is why it looks great. It doesn't look cheap, sure there are things I would have done differently and I think it's where Andor was better in that some scenes need a proper set, not ILM CGI. But I can understand why they elected to use it in some places.

The best visual star wars property we've ever received is the Last Jedi, it blended practical and special effects in a brilliant way to make a truly beautiful movie, that should be the Star Wars standard. But we know Disney will be pushing the ILM stuff through Star Wars because they need to to sell to a different company.

There is more to production than just CGI.

Cheap production. Bad writing. Poor acting. Declining viewership. No surprise it got cancelled.

You just said it looked cheap and should be like HotD, when I compared looks you moved the goalposts.

Cheap production is an oxymoron when you're complaining about how expensive it is to make.

What goal posts? HOTD looks much better with higher production values. You put up 2 screenshots and talked about CGI. Big whoop.

The Acolyte was ass in every meaningful way.

It's called wasting money. Things can be cheap and expensvie at the same time.

How does HotD look "Much better"

You enjoy the show more, that has nothing to do with looks. I personally find the constant muddy tones of the HBO Song of Fire and Ice shows to be meh. I'm a bigger fan of the fantasy looks of say Lord of the Rings.

The Acolyte had 2-3 episodes that were solid. The rest was garbage. And the story was a huge mess as well. Felt like they could have done the entire 8 episode series in less than a 90 minute movie.

Also, while I know the issue isn't solely with the Acolyle, I hate how they Disney movies and shows keeps running with the same terrible plot hole in everything after the original trilogy. Why do Jedi's only wear the one uniform? It seems incredibly dumb that Obi-Wan would continue to wear his Jedi issued uniform while in hiding from the Empire decades. But they keep making them wear the exact same Obi-Wan robes in every post original trilogy content.

I agree it was stupid of Lucas to make the Jedi outfit the same as Obi Wan's outfit in ANH. I think he realized that when he got on into the Clone Wars and you see some changes (though still not enough)

Acolyte at least gives you something a tiny bit different, some different colors (wish they were White and Gold not Brown and Gold) etc. but I understand the logic of not wanting them in armor etc, based on what Lucas considered the Jedi. They're at their core warrior monks. I mean he basically just copypasta'd Kurosawa's aesthetic and we're all living in that world still.

Still wish we had a bit more variety. I think it was a huge loss not to see Jedi in armor for the Clone Wars show up in Revenge of the Sith. It makes sense for them to have Pauldrons, Chest Armor, etc. Because they're supposed to be facing barrages of lasers from robots, even with lightsabers and the force having some extra protection makes sense.
