Josh Donaldson Surplus Value

It gives me great pleasure to announce as we approach the end of July that Josh Donaldson has earned his salary, the going rate for a 3 WAR player.

And that anything else the rest of this year is surplus value or for those of you who favor the colloquial pure gravy.

I know many here had high hopes of offering him a QO and netting a pick. Due to his age, would that scare most teams off from signing him?

JD is the exact type of player where a QO tanks his FA market.

If he accepts it, great.

That's what I'm saying. I feel like we've seen how the free agent market reacts recently to these older players seeking long term deals. In my opinion, would definitely tank his value.

Josh Donaldson gives you pleasure eh? Must be the hair.

Offer JD a QO, hoping he accepts it. It is quite possible he does.

If he rejects it the Braves get a pick in the 30s, which is more valuable than any pick the Braves would lose by signing a QO FA.

We know the Braves won't sign a FA with a QO attached, so it stands to reason they won't sign JD and give up that pick.

At that point the decision probably boils down to Mous on a 1-2 year deal with Camargo/Riley as the backup plan for 2020. Mous paired with Camargo/Culberson/Riley is probably a pretty good option for a single season.

Then get Grandal on a 1-2 year deal with a high AAV, and the best cOFer available to group with Acuna/Ender/Markakis...probably a RHH, perhaps Ozuna or Puig.

I'd do 2 years with an option, probably not 3 full years though.

The QO might scare off some teams, idk if he'd accept it or not, but makes plenty of sense to offer it.
