10 - Christian Pache OF

Hometown: Boca Chica, Dominican Republic

Position: OF Age: 16 DOB: 11/19/1998 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'1" Weight: 180 lb. VIDEO

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50

Scouts like Pache because his tools play in games now and he projects to be an even better player as he develops.

Pache can run. He's been known to get from home to first base in four seconds flat, and he runs a 6.5 second 60-yard dash. Some question his throwing accuracy and strength, but it's been described as average to below average, which is good for a player his age. He glides to balls in the outfield, often making a difficult play look easy.

Pache can hit, too. He rarely strikes out and he's been praised for his approach at the plate. He also runs the bases hard and is a max-effort player. The teenager is a competitor and wants to be the best player on the field at all times.

The Braves are among the teams that have shown the most interest in Pache.

21 - Derian Cruz SS

Hometown: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Position: SS Age: 16 DOB: 10/3/1998 Bats: S Throws: R Height: 6'0" Weight: 170 lb. VIDEO

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 30 | Run: 70 | Arm: 40 | Field: 50

Some scouts consider the 6-foot, 170-pound infielder the best athlete and the best runner in the entire class. Other evaluators feel he is near the top of that list.

Here's what we know: Cruz can run. He's a plus-runner and he's able to use his speed in games. One evaluator compared him to a young Jose Reyes.

The teenager is a switch-hitter, but there is a belief that he is a better hitter from the right side. However, he is expected to improve from the left side once he signs and begins receiving daily instruction. Cruz has not shown a ton of power, but he has received praise for a line-drive swing and ability to hit into the gaps. He's listed as a shortstop, but there's also the notion that he can play second base and might end up in center field one day.

Scouts also like his makeup.

The Braves are considered the favorite to sign Cruz.

Speaking of international signings, does anyone have a complete list of the reported 8 players signed by the Braves with international bonus money acquired in the Justin Upton trade? Bill Shanks has claimed multiple times that we signed 8 players with that money but I've yet to hear exact names or see a list.

We are also in on this kid too...

Rafael Marchan | Rank: 28 Hometown: Valencia, Spain
Position: C Age: 16 DOB: 2/25/1999
Bats: S Throws: R Height: 5'8" Weight: 175 lb. VIDEO
Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 30 | Run: 30 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50

From Tachira, Venezuela, Marchan has been described as a "catcher's catcher."

Here's why: The hard-working Marchan has shown a high baseball IQ and can be counted on to make the right play. He's savvy, and although he might not have the most tools in the class, he makes the most of his abilities and can make plays in games.

Marchan can hit. He's been praised for his ability to make contact and not give away at-bats. Scouts also like that he has a track record of international experience and is not afraid of the big stage. Marchan has impressed scouts with his defense. He also has decent arm, and there's hope his power will increase as he matures.

Marchan might not be the flashiest player in the class, but he's the type of player many clubs would like in their system.

The Braves, White Sox and Padres have all scouted Marchan heavily.

@JeffPassan
Signing bonus for Cuban OF Eddy Julio Martinez, 20, could reach $10M. Braves, Giants, Yanks, Cubs, Nats, D-backs, White Sox shown interest.

I believe players 6 to 9 on the above list were signed using the international slot mone the Cubs sent us in the La Stella deal.

How does the international pool work? I was under the impression the money from the La Stella deal was go "forward" money that would be devoted to the upcoming signing period. I'll readily admit I may be wrong.

My impession is the money from the cubs is for the current period.

Yep, it's for the period ending on 7/1/2015. We acquired the Padres 4th slot ($182,300) in the Justin Upton deal and the Cubs' 2nd ($458,000), 3rd ($309,300), and 4th (206,700) slots in the La Stella trade.

So we signed 8 players with less slot money than we got from the Cubs?

Jesse Sanchez does not list the Braves as a team in pursuit of Martinez. Don't know a lick about this fellow, but was hoping our (potential) interest in him was an indicator that we'd exceed the pool limit.

Those were the most recent workouts he was discussing. He did go on to say "Martinez is expected to work out for more clubs this week and is eligible to sign at any time."

Since we've been linked to him by several other sources, it wouldn't be out of the question to assume we were lining up a private workout for Martinez and didn't feel the need to be there for the last couple of open ones since we'd seen them in the past.

Not saying that's absolutely the case, but it would make some sense assuming we're in on him at all.

Interesting note from Ben Badler of Baseball America in his chat today:

"Roger (Greenville, SC): Do you see the Braves going over their international bonus pool this July 2? I've seen them linked to 2 players that combined could be about as much as they can trade for.

Ben Badler: I do think they will be in the market to trade for additional pool space, based on the players I’ve heard them strongly connected to. The bigger things I’m hearing on Atlanta is they want to go big—I mean, BIG—on international spending in 2016. Like, what the Yankees did last year kind of big. Given how many teams are going to be facing signing restrictions in 2016 for going over their pools, I’m a big proponent of that strategy."

This is awesome news if true.

Wow, that would be fantastic news. We have a surprisingly big pile of money to spend in the next couple years, and I'd feel more comfortable spending a big chunk of it on exceeding our international pool than on [insert name of major 2016 FA].

Would be a good use of the money freed up by the Kimbrel trade.

I'm very surprised the Braves did not sign either Oliviera or Tomas. I thought that was the plan all along. Hopefully this will make up for it with some high quality talent in the pipeline.
