10 - Christian Pache OF
Hometown: Boca Chica, Dominican Republic
Position: OF Age: 16 DOB: 11/19/1998 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'1" Weight: 180 lb. VIDEO
Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50
Scouts like Pache because his tools play in games now and he projects to be an even better player as he develops.
Pache can run. He's been known to get from home to first base in four seconds flat, and he runs a 6.5 second 60-yard dash. Some question his throwing accuracy and strength, but it's been described as average to below average, which is good for a player his age. He glides to balls in the outfield, often making a difficult play look easy.
Pache can hit, too. He rarely strikes out and he's been praised for his approach at the plate. He also runs the bases hard and is a max-effort player. The teenager is a competitor and wants to be the best player on the field at all times.
The Braves are among the teams that have shown the most interest in Pache.
21 - Derian Cruz SS
Hometown: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Position: SS Age: 16 DOB: 10/3/1998 Bats: S Throws: R Height: 6'0" Weight: 170 lb. VIDEO
Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 30 | Run: 70 | Arm: 40 | Field: 50
Some scouts consider the 6-foot, 170-pound infielder the best athlete and the best runner in the entire class. Other evaluators feel he is near the top of that list.
Here's what we know: Cruz can run. He's a plus-runner and he's able to use his speed in games. One evaluator compared him to a young Jose Reyes.
The teenager is a switch-hitter, but there is a belief that he is a better hitter from the right side. However, he is expected to improve from the left side once he signs and begins receiving daily instruction. Cruz has not shown a ton of power, but he has received praise for a line-drive swing and ability to hit into the gaps. He's listed as a shortstop, but there's also the notion that he can play second base and might end up in center field one day.
Scouts also like his makeup.
The Braves are considered the favorite to sign Cruz.
