Just how good is Heyward (the baseball player)?

I think Heywards ceiling is crazy good but will he ever reach it? I'm not gonna say he can't stay healthy but he is injury prone, whether their an accident or not. He just can't stay on the field for a full season it seems. Honestly I'd take the money and give it to Justin Upton, Freeman, Simmons, and Minor. I'd trade Heyward next offseason for a haul. Bc he seems to not wanna stay.
 
His potential is high enough that his days with the Braves are numbered. Hope we get something out of it.
 
His orbital bones are brittle and his internal organs obvious cant stand up to the rigors of 162, but he's a damned good ballplayer.

Seriously, I'm concerned with what age is going to do to his body, but he was so often the best player on the field last year that I still expect improvement and hope for a deal keeping him in town.

He needs to stay out of CF, that is for sure. BJ better step the **** up.
 
He has all and I do mean all of the requisite tools. He has the body that amplifies those tools (speed and strength).

My questions/concerns center around his coachability and learning. IMO he stands too far from the plate. He still has the semi loop in his swing and the all too recurring hole that goes with it. Has anyone ever tried to change some things?

I am not a scout nor coach.

I wonder about the fragility. Is it the result of over training?

Cant call him injury prone based off getting hit in the face which is unlucky.

Getting the other surgery i suppose was sorta on him but i dont know.

He played 155 games the previous year.

I agree on the bottom part if he rejects another extension then they should probably trade him since he wants to test FA or go elsewhere.

I hope we can keep him longterm, his potential is through the roof.
 
I know some of his injuries were fluke and his jaw and appendix for unlucky for sure. But E's always had little things that just keep him out. Maybe he'll stay healthy and have a big year bc he's one of my favorite players but if he doesn't resign this offseason then he's gone.
 
We saw how good he can be in 2012 when he was healthy all year.
I think all the problems with him are mental. He has all the tools and still shows them frequently, but not consistently enough.
Let's just hope he comes in to the season 100% and takes over as our catalyst/team leader and steps up. I don't know if the pressure has been getting to him or what, could be a lot of bad luck - not just BABIP, but also getting hit in the face with a baseball.
 
I see a Cliff Floyd type career for Jason. He will have some big years but will be held back because of injuries, jmo.

Nothing wrong with a Cliff Floyd type career either.

Not disagreeing with your comment, just curious as to why you say it? What has happened that I missed that makes you think he doesn't want to be here?
 
The fact that he has already turned down a multi-year offer makes the chances of him staying long term very low. Not that I blame him, as he obviously feels he can make more by going year to year, but it tells us one or two things or both:

1. He is out to maximize his earnings, which for a mid-market team like the Braves, is probably a death knoll. When he becomes a free agent, we will not be able to pay him what the big market teams can.

2. If he really loved being a Brave (like Brian McCann did), he would have accepted the offer.

Either way, we most likely have two more years of Jason in Atlanta, unless he is traded before then.
