Legal/scotus thread

I'm inclined to discount his written statement more than just about anything I've seen in this whole matter.

You are putting more weight in 30 year old unnamed hearsay than you are eye witness testimony.

This tells me your mind is made up

I think one big question that needs to be answered immediately in regards to these new allegations is is this a legal document signed by Swetnik that really does immediately open her up to perjury charges. I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere.

i'm the one who keeps saying it would be wise to hit the pause button and let the FBI investigate the allegations

As far as I understand it yes.

And if her allegations are true, a lot of people need to go to prison.

If they're false, she needs to go to prison.

Anyone disagree with that?

someone's lying...that's why I would like to see a thorough investigation of the allegations

You keep talking about eyewitness testimony, but the only two actual eyewitnesses to the Ford incident are, again, the accused himself and Mark Judge, who’s written extensively about his blackout drinking and is a problematic witness, to say the least.

You’re saying you’re only on the side of due process, yet you don’t think Judge not being subpoenaed is a red flag?

I’m still curious as to why you think the Ramirez accusation, even if true, is not disqualifying, and how that logic applies to the Ford situation. This thread is getting long, so if you answered it upthread, my apologies.

Weird that after the Catholic Church scandal, the USA Gymnasitics scandal, Penn State, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, et al, that people still profess shock that accusers could stay silent for years, even decades. It makes that shock seem a tad disingenuous, IMO.

Someone dug up Mark Judge's old youtube vlogs. Needless to say... the guy is a bit weird and there's lots of videos with female models in lingerie on there. Just weird vids.

trump supporter on the news was standing with her daughters and declared that men groping women is not a big deal. wow. what on earth is wrong with people. totally ok with her daughters being groped by men. this **** is unreal man.

it's eye opening and sad.
unfortunately, some are more offended by women speaking up than by the rapes themselves.

I was 8.
I was ashamed.
I blamed myself.
When i finally told, i was 18
& i was told by multiple people that I should have told sooner because 'what if he did it to someone else'
I later found out there were 3 more after me. & I blame myself. I'm so sorry

#WhyIDidntReport because I weighed up the pain and trauma of the assault with the pain and trauma of going to court with a lawyer pulling apart every aspect of my sex life to justify why I deserved it. Moving on from the assault was the less traumatic, most protective option.

Because I thought it wasn't rape if you were dating. I thought if you didn't want to have sex and he did, and forced you to anyway, that was just something that happened in relationships. #WhyIDidntReport

#WhyIDidntReport I was 7, all five boys were older, bigger, & some lived next door to my grandmother. Before I could tell my grandmother, she gave me that look- she knew- & said I shouldn’t horseplay with boys & sent me out to clean up. I never told a soul.

1. Once I finally was able to bring myself to tell someone, a school teacher. The response I received was “you were drinking alcohol so that doesn’t count as rape, considering you put yourself in that situation”.

saying "the woman should have said something sooner, she's probably lying since she didn't" isn't what they truly believe. it's a deflection and an out. an excuse.

I'm not shocked at all. It just means it is much more difficult to get the proper justice. The idea that Ford or whomever didn't speak out immediately doesn't surprise me, but when she named 4 people to corroborate 35 years later and all of them fail to do so, then what are we supposed to do? Just blindly accept the accusation?

I am really hopeful she shows up tomorrow and and answers all the questions with conviction.

Well that's what's going to have to happen bc there is no corraboration.

But I love now that college drinking = rapist.

Good on you guys.

With statements like this, you are making yourself into the right/libertarian version of 57. I spent the last three years of my college experience mostly sh*t-faced and I was no angel, but I never engaged like anything in a similar vein to what was purported to have happened in Kavanaugh's case. There's a difference between being chronically over-served and subjecting women to untoward advances. Maybe that's what the generation behind me did, but my buddies and I were satisfied to get snot-slinging drunk.

I'm not saying this is true, but I've tended to believe women in these situations over the years.

Super, ensheff, and nsacpi have decided he's a rapist.

But Ford's evidence consistently contradict her own claims.

Even her polygraph and letter to Feistein don't match.
