Let's Talk About Media

You would be correct, if the ratings didn’t say that more 18-49 watch The Five than watch anything on msnbc or cnn. That’s not old.

While it's strictly anecdotal, I know almost no one in my age group who watches any TV. I would think that the most likely is the radicalized right.

If there are enough of them to have that significant of an impact on the ratings, then they aren't exactly radical.

Hey guys. 85% approved of Biden’s speech. They just had to ask 85% democrats to get that number.

Oh, you guys never say it.

Your actions just tell us.

my actions? lol

calm down looney tunes

i said it's not shocking that we don't need as many fact checkers since we don't have the guy who literally lied about everything in office now

and y'all went off running on whatever tangent you wanted from that like it wasn't a factual statement

i never said to get rid of fact checkers or anything

but that doesn't stop you. you already had in your mind whatever you wanted to believe and it doesn't matter what is actually being said etc

So. The guy not following Catholic teaching is "very Catholic," but the church leaders who are asking him to follow the teachings of his faith are "right wingers."

Respected news source everyone.

The pope is described in the article as left-leaning. As is a publication called the Catholic National Reporter.

In some sense these are accurate labels.

The rising right wing refers to the large number of bishops appointed by the prior two popes, who were more doctrinally conservative than Francis.

Bishops like Wilton Gregory, appointed archbishop of DC by Francis, are considered liberals in the same mold as Francis.

Maybe better labels would be pseudo catholic for credibly accused creepy joe and defenders of the faith for the conservative bishops. And maybe anti-christ for Francis?

It is my church, and I follow it all with a certain bemused detachment. It will be interesting to see what the bishops do this summer.

The takedown of religion is right out of the CCPs playbook.

Perhaps less disingenuous explanations would be helpful. Church policy regarding abortion hasn't recently changed, and American bishops are hardly on the far right when compared to their peers internationally.

There are two types of bishops in this case, those that adhere to the teachings of the Christian faith, and those that are pushing the teachings of their Progressive religion. No man can serve two masters.

As for the antichrist, I've been wondering if the mark of the beast that John saw was predictive of the chapter and verse numbering that would eventually be assigned to his own gospel. Those referenced in verse 66 of chapter 6 certainly seem to be doing all in their power to destroy the faith.

The issue of communion for people who dissent from church doctrine comes up every now and then. The article notes that the last time it came up with respect to catholics who were pro-choice was in 2004, when the bishops voted 183 to 6 in favor of leaving it up to the individual bishops. Catholic clergy are remarkably flexible in how they interpret doctrine. My mother divorced and remarried. That's a sin according to the church. She goes to church every week. And when my step-father was dying she asked the priest if he would marry them in the church (not physically in the church since my step-father was too sick to attend). And he did. He broke a lot of rules in doing so. There is an old saying: the most orthodox cardinal does not always make the best pope.

The issue is that someone can be pro-choice and still be Catholic, they don't need to be mutually exclusive.

Biden can be a devout catholic and believe it's not the Government's right to tell women what to do.

Now talking about the anti-christ, you do realize that Revelations is basically a veiled criticism of the Roman Empire. Been a hot minute since I've really read everything, but as I recall the Dragon is the Empire, the first beast is the emperor and the second is false profits who tried to turn Christians from the Religion and turn to the Roman empire.

A supermajority of Catholic bishops disagree with you about being both Catholic and in favor of abortion rights. They seem to think that people should make an effort to practice the same faith that they claim.

There has been lots of speculation about the hidden meaning of Revelations. I watched Jack Van Impe spin it to fit the European Union like a glove 25 years ago. I'll take it at face value until I hopefully get to ask the author about it.

Based on all their other beliefs yeah they should be considered right wingers. But honestly the abortion issue shouldnt be a hard one for a Catholic politician. Just say "Its been settled legally in the courts and while I dont like or encourage anyone to get an abortion but I respect the constitutional rights women have to get an abortion."

Where does raping kids fit into making an effort to practice the same faith they claim?

Yes, but if the Catholic Church did that, they would be kicking a whole lot of people out. I don't know about you, but I grew up Catholic. I can tell you that most catholics don't follow the communion guidelines. For example, I know 3 masses were big, Easter, Palm Sunday and Christmas. Most other masses you could walk in whenever you wanted to and sit in the front half of the church Those ones people would stand around the back. Missing the Sabbath is a mortal sin and shouldn't get communion. So on so forth. Like if everyone who shouldn't get communion didn't, it would be a pretty danged short part of the mass.

True, no one really knows, but based around imagery, and the time of the release and the tradition of the Hebrew story telling (the use of symbolism when you cannot use the real name) that it is heavily implied that it's roman. THe heavy implication that 666 was representative of Nero as it involved some kind of move from short hand hebrew to roman numerals. I forget the details. It was something taught in religion class.

Unrelated, thank god for the Arabs for giving us Arabic Numerals.
