Let's Talk About Media

I believe that government spending is too high, but that there are many, many ways to reduce it that don’t involve the social safety net. To wit, I think more money is actively wasted on inefficiency in our military and federal law enforcement programs than could ever be hoped to be gained by people defrauding federal welfare programs.

Sounds like you are one of DOGE biggest fans

I don't understand that if Fauci was implicated in funding the creation of a.virus that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, and also lied constantly about it, why you wouldn't want him punished

I really don't get this attitude but you've consistently made the argument that criminals should not be punished for their crimes

I’m not actually conceding he is personally implicated in any of this, but one major point where we differ on this is whether or not he would have necessarily acted criminally in doing so. Actually stopping the spread of infectious diseases is likely the most important thing we can do to keep people safe and healthy. As a non-scientist, I’m not qualified to say the best way to go about that, but I don’t think being a part of *funding* research that might aid in that process is something we need to imprison people for. We regularly **** up things in far more inexcusable ways, and I don’t care to necessarily see the people doing that imprisoned either. Fauci isn’t going to go release a toxin into the water supply if he’s not in prison, so I highly doubt my life will be changed if he is pardoned. The problem would be the pardon itself, not the lack of prison time for Fauci.

I’m highly in favor of the venture, though far less excited about the fact that it just seems to be political theater designed to give Trump credit for things Congress would be pressing the actual buttons for and to make gullible people believe that something transformative is happening.

Trumps 'crime' is contrived as retribution.

Bidens crimes are clearly leeragin influence for personal riches. Fauchi literally went around both Obama/Trump and worked with the CCP on gain of fucntion research (along with NIH running the show) that led to a pandemic that killed millions worldwide.

Its shocking, even coming from you, that you equate these things and don't want punishment levied.

So to be clear, we’re supposed to just be taking the words of the Republican House Committee as gospel, while taking the words of Trump and his legal team as gospel? There’s absolutely no chance in your mind that *you* are also being lied to?

This is amazing foresight even though the brainstorming session between reps is happening just now.

Look, maybe they’ll prove me wrong and I actually hope they do. But spending appropriations are the realm of Congress, and until I start seeing more than just “let’s make all the remote workers quit” or “stop funding Planned Parenthood” I’m going to maintain a bit of skepticism that DOGE is more than added PR for austerity politics and right-wing social/fiscal policy wishes. Go into the departments, find the waste and improve it. You could spend the next 4 years alone in the Pentagon and save us countless sums of money.

feels like this prominent wapo reporter publicly fawning for a cold blooded murderer should be an indictment on legacy media

I missed this when it happened, but I love the absurdity of right-wing media.

Absurdity of all media is the common theme. Have you seen CNN and MSNBC lately? Pot meeting kettle for the first time?

FWIW, what network is that? Nothing is showing which means its likely pretty niche.

It’s the network some billionaire basically created as a vehicle for Bannon, I think. The person speaking is actively in Trump’s orbit. It’s just nice to remind this board sometimes that the “replacement” media isn’t a viable alternative.

I still don't know what network or what person you are talking about.

Besides, I don't think its crazy people are ****ting on Wicked.

People are free to dislike any movie they want, but it’s still funny to call it racist against white people because an “obviously Hispanic” woman who isn’t Hispanic is playing the “villain” who isn’t actually written as a villain. I don’t think it’s crazy to expect the people ****ting on Wicked to at least know *why* they are doing so.
