Let's Talk About Media

I dont understand you people Gary Johnson is just a sane Republican. What makes McCain, Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and Palin acceptable candidates and Gary Johnson one step from a crackpot?
when you are trying to gain traction as a serious candidate you need to know about aleppo... I know unfair... Obama and Clinton both stumbled in 2008 when Tim Russert asked them about Medvedev...the reality is you need to be really good to be taken seriously as a 3rd party candidate...Weld was ready for prime time...Johnson not so much

But not having your money tied to anything has led to hyper inflation over and over and over again.

the gold standard is a crackpot idea ...I'm sorry to insist....recessions were much worse in the old days before modern central banks came into being

I'll just mention one dog that didnt bark because we weren't on the gold standard...is Asian societies there is a tradition for families to build up there holdings of gold as they become more wealthy...this has been going on in recent decades, especially after China reformed its economic system...if we had been on the gold standard this would have resulted in a substantial contraction of the money supply as the newly wealthy Asian families took some of it out of circulation...we would have had a nasty deflation

I asked a different question

Ok. I’ll play. I don’t know. Maybe? Probably? The Gulf of Tonkin incident probably qualifies. If you squint at it, the WMD intelligence stovepiping in the runup to the Iraq war might be considered to be in the same zip code, though not strictly a so-called false flag operation.

That’s really relevant to my implied question, which is what credible person believes that the CW attacks in Syria at issue were not actually perpetrated by the government?

One further question I have about that video is why Paul is so rabidly pro-Assad. I mean, I get why he’s anti-interventionist where the US is concerned, but what dog does he have in that fight? Seems like a question you’d want answered if you were a fan of his.

As to the crackpot question, I’ve pretty much always considered him that. The gold standard stuff is enough, frankly. I remember years ago posting a link to a survey of Nobel laureate economists about the gold standard, where the collective response was, to paraphrase, “lolwut?”

Since you have the opinion that the dismal science is “just math,” I wonder why you discount economic orthodoxy on that issue.

Its his foreign policy of being anti-war and isolationist. Going back to the gold standard. Balancing the budget. And getting rid of a whole bunch of departments like dept of education.

I can't understand the desire for the gold standard. Its a "precious metal," just like currency is a "precious paper." Neither have any real purpose outside of representing the value of things that have some useful function. I think Paul could have gained a lot more traction if not for that and the false flag stuff.

I actually thought McAffee was the best libertarian candidate given that the choices were what they were.

You should read up on the declassified "Operation Northwoods"

Meanwhile, we can chat about the gold standard in the economics thread if you'd like... There are pros and definitely cons.

Paul was a former military, former doctor, 12 time elected congressman, whose platform was "let's run the government based on the constitution"... he had an enormous following of grassroots support, and was consistently polling and winning top 3 in 2012 primaries. He's also probably the most intelligent candidate I've ever seen run for President

But he got no coverage and the coverage he did get was "he'll never win"

It's so strange that a crackpot socialists gets fawned over, but Paul gets ignored... weird.

I see the two alleged Skripal assassins were on Russia Today to talk about the beauty of Salisbury cathedral.
