Lol Bud Norris

I will say this. I like Norris at $2.5m better than JA Happ at 3/$36m. Holy crap.

In fairness, Happ did really well down the stretch in Pit.

But that all changed when the Pirates added Happ in one of the least-discussed moves of the trade deadline. In his final 63 1/3 innings of the season, the southpaw allowed just 13 earned runs, three home runs, and 13 walks while striking out 69 opposing hitters. From MLBTR.

Not saying i would have given Happ that much and im fine with the Norris move. There's a TON of good FA SP's, gonna be interesting who goes where.

Happ made some changes last year and they worked great. I don't think he's the dumpster fire everyone thinks anymore. I think he figured something out and will be a really solid pitcher for the next few years.

That's a little more than the 3/30 predicted by MLBTR, but I think Happ was wise to sign early. The last thing those second tier pitchers want is to be the guy looking for a 1 year $10m contract in late January because every team has already made all their SP moves.

I expect Happ to be worth about 4 WAR over the life of that contract. Works out to be about 9 M/projected WAR. Seems pricey to me. ymmv

No, I saw that. Every now and then a great pitching coach makes a big difference, and Searage is a great pitching coach.

But still, $36m after 11 good starts? They almost DFAed him in Seattle in July.

Norris is exactly the type of player I want coppy to spend Braves money on. A potentional shot in the dark high upside guy. Makes me think Coppy knows what he's doing. That Olivera trade though.

He started throwing his fastball more and had a slate of favorable match-ups.

Hardly worth dumping 10/13/13 on. Wish him the best though.

And so begins the post-Anthopoulos era in Toronto.
