Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Suggest you do some fact checking. Soroka went down in mid June of 2018 with shoulder fatigue. Might not qualify as an "injury" but still counted as lost season. Being as you are an adult apparently then unable to count to three is what is the terrible take here.

Handling a rookie that was 21 with kid gloves while maintaining that year of control is not a detriment to the pitcher. Saying that year was not exceptional implies it was not good and that is t true. He was just put on the shelve to be extra careful. If you want to say that extending soroka this soon because of his injury history, then I would agree. I mean his injury history and buying out 4 years of control could get you 2 years of FA for pretty cheap but I still wouldn’t argue with that stance.

What diagnosis? Just quoting facts. Soroka is a super two. Yes he has 4 more years of control. Yes he has been injured 2 of the 3 years. Just saying it is too early to commit to an extension.

And here you are again trying to act like you understand MLB roster construction. You’re clueless.

This is the perfect time to buy 1-2 FA years of a quality MLB SP at a discount rate by guaranteeing his arb salaries. As long as he’s showing no ill effects of the Achilles injury, he’s just as likely to be healthy as any other pitcher.

The "lost seasons" as a pitcher are why an extension might be worthwhile; that personal experience of career precarity might be enough to convince him to sign away a few additional years at good value for the team.

Wonder where the rest of the realistic market for Turner is if the Dodgers really are moving on from him?

If AA could sign him for 2 years/$24 million and Rosario for 1 year/$5 million, he'd fill 2 positions for the money Ozuna probably gets by himself (and for a shorter term). If the NL happens to get the DH, Riley stays at 3B full time (with Turner here to take over if his adjustments don't take) and you'd still have a RH bat behind Freddie while d'Arnaud could slot in 5th behind Rosario.

If he could fill LF, 3B, and DH for "only" a $17 million payroll increase maybe there would be enough left to add Villar and a pen arm.

Jesus - these dudes are getting everyone: Passan: The San Diego Padres are in agreement on a deal to acquire right-hander Joe Musgrove from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN.

I wonder how much Semien is willing to take? I would love to have him on the team.

meh, at the package it looks the Padres gave up. Passan said they gave up a lot.

Thats 7/17/20/non top 30 per Pipeline. Mets swoop in and get Lucchesi, not sure what they're giving up.
