Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

yup. I thought the same thing when I saw it was three years. I figured Tommy would have gotten two years, at best.

It took you an hour and a half to figure out that that's a terrible contract?

What else could "Ok, where the hell are you, AA?" mean?

The best signings are the stupid ones you let other people make.

Braves have kicked tires on Orioles star Trey Mancini. Nothing serious yet, but Braves need offense. Could be tough to trade for O’s though.

Didi will hit 20-25 bombs in that ballpark - when was the last time Andrelton did that?

homeruns aren't all that matters. they had him last year - how'd that go?
and it looks like they'll have to overpay him at this point because he's basically their only option left.
besides, part of the reason i was happy Simmons didn't go there is because he's one of my favorite players.

i'm intrigued by Mancini. hits righties and lefties pretty well for his career (119 wRC+/109wRC+ respectively).
is he any worse in the field than Ozuna?

Mancini had stage 3 colon cancer in 2020 and underwent therapy for it. He had a scan in December 2020 and it showed clear of colon cancer and while he intends to play in 2021, it would be hard for a team to be confident in his ability to immediately bounce back after taking 2020 off entirely and undergoing chemo..

yeah, that's fair. probably not someone you want to bet on to be a FT starter in 2021.

Trading for a guy who can't play defense doesn't seem like a classic AA move to me.

Nope.

But just daydreaming a little, can you imagine the *ell opposing Pitchers would have to deal with if he traded for a certain someone with elite defense and signed a couple guys that certainly aren't slouches???

Acuna, Freeman, Chapman, Pederson/Duvall, d'Arnaud, Ozzie, Dansby, Ender/Pache

Heyman: Braves and Phillies were runners-up for O’Day. Those two teams are in on a lot of relievers.

Another example of AA’s strategy to be the fallback option for everyone. It’s genius as long as someone eventually has to take advantage of a fallback option. We’ve yet to see what happens if nobody does though. Hopefully we don’t have to find out.

Mancini certainly seems like a DH only guy. I prefer Success Rate Added over Outs Above Average because rate stats are better when comparing players who don’t get as many chances as a CFer.

Success Rate Added in 2019 for a few guys of interest (2020 data is pretty meaningless).

Kiermaier 7% (#1)
Ender 2% (was 5% in 2018)
Pederson 1%
Acuna 0%
Markakis -1%
Ozuna -3%
Mancini -4%
Rosario -7%

I didn’t realize Rosario was so bad in the OF. Perhaps I need to rethink my desire to have him platooning with Duvall.

Can’t wait for Riley at 3rd. Ender in right and Johan as our DH. Will make all these near misses so worth it. We can say but he kicked soo many tires. But hey we are not strapped with a bad contract. Go team.

I thought it was official, no DH in NL. You all think they will negotiate that again when the owners try to cut the season again?
