Bryant for negligible prospect capital works. Cruz as primary DH works. A Ramirez trade for quantity works. Even though I don’t agree with paying for a SS and then using him at 3b, a Story trade works. I bet there’s 1-2 trade options out there we haven’t discussed.
There are still quite a few options to acquire an impact bat. Declaring Ozuna and Turner as the only viable options is factually incorrect.
Bryant is a complete negative for us. His numbers are trash and continue to regress. He makes 20 million a year and he will cost prospects. Either we trade a decent haul to have them pick up the tab, or we give them nobody of consequence and then pay 20 million. Why not just sign someone for roughly the same amount money who will actually produce, and save the prospects, regardless of who they are?
We don’t have the dh in the nl currently and who knows what happens regarding the dh in the nl in the 2021 season. Signing Cruz is a huge gamble. If we don’t see the dh in the nl what do you do with him?
Story would work, but who are we giving up for him and how realistic is he? What will his numbers look like away from Coors?
In 300 home and road games this is what his numbers look like:
H
1285 pa, 1151 ab, 219 r, 350 h, 84 hr, 232 rbi, 32 sb, .304 avg, .370 obp, .624 slg, .994 ops
A
1256 pa, 1145 ab, 156 r, 286 h, 50 hr, 143 rbi, 48 sb, .250 avg, .315 obp, .445 slg, .760 ops
His numbers fall all of a cliff away from Coors and I’m not sure we want to burn the trade capital it will cost to acquire him. And if we trade away Dansby in the deal, we still have a glaring hole in the outfield.
Who is A Ramirez? I’m drawing a blank.
We could trade for JRam. That would be an ideal option. And yes, there are other trade options I’m sure we’re not thinking about, but free agent options are between Ozuna and Turner. The options are very, very limited overall.
