I think it's something a little bigger than Monty. Maybe AA is players for Adames, would solve SS and move Arcia into a bench role. Although certainly worry last year was his career peak. And you're paying for his decline years. But he's still an excellent player.

This what I saw to. He’s saving cash for somebody. Soto would no doubt be amazing but our odds are pretty low. I’d guess the target is Adames.

We have nobody coming in the minors and Arcia ain’t gonna cut it. He either goes for Kim or Adames. If he goes for Kim then he’ll have enough ammo to get somebody else too.

And I dont think that even gets him. Adames is no doubt a big upgrade over Arcia but he just isnt the type of hitter this lineup needs. We have sluggers. We need guys to get on base for the sluggers. Adames at his best is a .250 batting average .330 OBP guy. A few less balls go over the fence and we will be paying for an average offensive SS with good defense long term 25+ million a year. I am just a little worried he loses some motivation after getting the big contract and things go south quickly.

Montgomery feels like a guy that is attractive because of having 0 acquisition cost besides his salary. If there are free agents that we like similar or better, I don't see any reason to prioritize him unless the options come off the table.

I’m fine with not getting Montgomery. I have no idea on why he really crapped the bed last year.

It just seems like a move AA would make

If the Diamondbacks are willing to attach an asset to rid themselves of Montgomery’s money, then it would make a lot more sense.

Even that I hate Arcia… I think we need a better LF adding someone like Anthony Santander switch hitter is a better player for this team. Shortstop comes with a premium price and I think Arcia is good enough to cover that position.
