Mallex Smith promoted to AAA

I love Andrelton, but defense usually peaks early so it could make sense to trade him while he's still young. I don't think we'll do it to make room for Peraza though, maybe Albies in a year or two.

I agree with this. I don't see any way it makes sense to trade Simmons right now. He is extremely valuable on defense alone, and he's signed to a reasonable contract. It would be foolish to trade him, especially if you're just making room for Peraza, who is an unknown.

In 2-3 years, it might make more sense. We will have more time to see if his offense will ever improve, and it will be about time for his defense to at least start slipping some while getting near the end of his contract. I still don't think I would be in favor of it then, but it would make far more sense to wait.

Maybin, Peraza, and Jenkins for Rendon? I'd be surprised if we traded within the division, and that may not be enough to get that done, but I'd be on board even though I love Maybin.

Peraza seemed like a lock to be an everyday player on this team a few months ago, but our circumstances have changed at 2B and CF in a good way (Smith, Maybin, Peterson). He has two more minor league options beyond this year and needs more time in AAA to develop, so the Braves shouldn't be in a rush to trade him.

As for Smith, I'm pretty much sold on the offense. Some of the reports on his defense are concerning. If he can't play average CF defense, he may be more or a part time player.

I don't think Peraza really needs more development at AAA. I think he's ready to start seeing major league pitching. I don't think holding onto him past this year helps us; if anything, it could make his value slip some.

Peraza has recently been playing second again.
So, what does this mean for Peraza's development as a CF?

Peraza will still occasionally see some time in CF, but Mallex Smith will get the majority of the playing time at that position

Smith looks good... but he has a contact issue that will likely not play well in the big leagues

He could be anything from Billy Hamilton to Kenny Lofton. Lofton struck out almost 100 times as a 24 year old minor leaguer.

Maybin, Peraza, and Jenkins for Rendon? I'd be surprised if we traded within the division, and that may not be enough to get that done, but I'd be on board even though I love Maybin.

He's under control for 4-5 more years, and it would cost way more than that for him.

Take Wood and add him and/or Sims, might have something.
