Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

Out of curiosity, why are some of you so high on Anthopoulous. From what I can tell looking into briefly, he's a young GM who makes a lot of trades including cashing of prospects for major leaguers.

Seems he made made major increases to scouting department in Toronto. I get the sense that some of you think he is big analytics guy, but so far I'm not seeing that. I see an article that suggested he increased the Jays analytics department from one employee to 2 near the end of his tenure. Supposedly, he falls more on the traditional side of things.

He is young though and that seems to be something y'all think is important.

I see Anthopolous and Cherington as the two best options that have been mentioned, so I won't be disappointed if it's one of those two. Both have warts, but I don't look at their prior stints as disqualifying when it comes to getting a second opportunity. Anthopolous' role in building / re-building the Jays scouting department has to be attractive the the Braves, as they are going to need the next head of baseball ops to help right the ship there. I like that AA had some exposure to Andrew Friedman in LA this year, as I view him as the top executive in the sport (no offense to Theo).

As I mentioned previously, I'm legitimately surprised the Braves are open to Anthopolous' "wheel and deal" style though, and I thought they would surely over-correct to a more cautious personality after Coppy. I suspect the Coppy comparison is based on the relentlessness that AA was known for in offering trades, but I have not seen any mentions of his style being perceived as unprofessional or annoying, as was apparently the case with Coppy.

Belle blamed the Indians' front office for the team's failure to go back to the World Series in '96.

"If you look at our '95 team and you look at the Braves, I thought basically we should have kept the same team," Belle said. "Why tamper with it if it's not broken? They let (Paul) Sorrento go. Then they let Kenny Hill go, and after that they trade Wayne Kirby, Carlos (Baerga), Eddie Murray and the list goes on."

---

That, and they wouldn't pay him in 97.

And subsequently went back to the WS after they moved on from Belle.

They could have done way worse than Anthopoulos. It might not be a homerun but its sure close to it. Just gotta hope he can sweet talk his former team, the Dodgers, into wanting Kemp back. lol

Compared to the other dinosaurs rumored to be in the running, AA was the least ****ty dinosaur.

Yep. Remove all the nostalgia and get with the new age of baseball. I like AA and I think he'll bring credibility to the Braves. That's needed after this mess.

Haven't dug into all of them, but landing Marco Estrada for Adam Lind was pretty sweet IMO. Tough to call the Donaldson deal anything other than a steal.

Notable draftees - Aaron Sanchez, Syndergaard, Sam Dyson, Dalton Pompey, Kris Bryant (unsigned), Tyler Beede (unsigned), Daniel Norris, Luke Weaver (unsigned), Aaron Nola (unsigned), Kevin Pillar.

International signees included Roberto Osuna, Dawel Lugo, and Jairo Labourt.

If nothing else, hiring AA likely keeps Acuna out of the Opening Day lineup, and if they actually do choose to start his clock it increases the likelihood that one of Kemp or Markakis is unloaded since he's shown he'll do what it takes to unload guys like Vernon Wells.

Vlad Jr would be the highest profile signing

on a random side note he drafted 2 current Braves in Drew Lugbauer and Keith Weisenberg

If anybody can get rid of Kemp it will be AA. Nobody thought Vernon Wells could be moved but he did it.

Did they send any money to the Angels with Wells? It would certainly be a coup if we could somehow shed Kemp from the roster. Hopefully, Anthopoulos will be given some leeway on the money end. It always stings when a team has to pay a player to play for another team, but that's the only way out with Kemp. It's not a habit I would want to see the team get into, but sometimes it just has to be done.
