Michael Harris Extension Reportedly Coming

Don’t get me wrong. PLEASE SIGN HIM

However

Compare MH2’s numbers to rookie year Frenchy. This isn’t without risk

Hopefully he signed the Acuna contract.

Yeah, a little premature for this I would say. But, it really is, in effect, a two year extension. And if he really turns into a superstar we save money.

Nothing is without risk. But the big thing in Harris' favor that isn't a fluke is plus defense in center.

Agreed. Always bet on tools.

But wasn’t young Frenchy also a good defender? Might have just been his arm (which was insane)

I’m hoping we get a few club options for assuming the risk of guaranteeing his arbitration years.

Great play by Olson. Starting to look like the defensive 1B I thought we were getting.

8 years, $16 million.

At this point I wouldn't put that past AA.

The current record for an extension with less than 1 year of service is 6/25 to Tim Anderson in 2016.

8 years covers 2 pre arb years (~$2M), and 3 arb years ($20M-$30). So that’s 6/25 like Anderson, plus 2 years at $15M a pop would be 8/55 or so.

That's exactly what it was. The plus defense that Frenchy showed was with his arm. The thing with that is that you really need people running on you consistently to get the most out of it as far as WAR numbers go.

This is a bit higher than I expected for a guy with pretty severe platoon splits so far. Here’s to hoping he progresses vs LHP.

Agreed. Obviously you look like a genius if he progresses, but it’s not without risk.

Hopefully AA got multiple club options in return for assuming the risk.

News of 8/72 seems a little high to me for a guy showing severe platoon splits, but maybe a good chunk of that 72 is the 9th year buyout.

As is, wouldn't Harris be a super two and get 4 years of arbitration and not 3?

This is wrong. It’s 3 pre arb years (~$3M), and 3 arb years (up to $30M) plus 2 FA years, plus a 9th year option.

Assuming a buyout of the option, and a $72M total, they look to be valuing the FA years at $20M each. Not bad, but not some insane discount considering all the risk the Braves just took on.
