Minor League Thread Part Deux

The last 2 seasons (816 PA), he's...

He's most likely done
At some point the hitting philosophy has to be questioned. He (Harris) grips it and rips it and some of the decent-esque hitters the Braves have, got no idea what the f they're doing at the plate. Lot of fail on AA'S part....is it Hyers?

Harris making a comeback is certainly not a sure thing, but under the circumstances, it is the bet I think the Braves pretty much have to make.

Show him the analytics and give him some specific things to work on.

Eh- he was bad before the change, so doesn’t track.

I really don't think Harris is THIS bad. Maybe he won't get back to the .800 OPS, 5+ WAR monster we thought he was gonna be, but his track is too good to believe he's a worse hitter than Eli White. I don't know what is wrong with him, but it has got to be mental. In his last 18 games (63 PAs) he has exactly 6 hits and a .259 OPS. I mean we could literally run out any player on our AAA team and expect better results than that in a 18 game span.

I think a trip AAA has to be in order. Maybe even a IL trip to just reset mentally.

If dude takes over half a season to get going, he really isn't that valuable.
He was given the benefit of the doubt because he was hurt. The fact is, he was on fire when he came back. That's not revisionist history, that is real. The numbers when he came back is what gave people the impression he was a break out candidate. Anyone claiming they saw this fall coming is full of it.

The numbers I gave above include a .316 average with 8 hrs in September alone.

However, to States point he was at.163 with a.490 OPS in his first 138 plate appearances after being disabled.

His falloff has been drastic, but underneath the hot streak, maybe there was more trouble.

There would be a number of teams who would look at Harris’ good years and his age and be convinced they could fix him.

They would use this year to drive the price down, but they would want to take a shot at fixing him.

I am not sure, with some new hitting coaches, the Braves aren’t just as likely to do that as someone else.
Harris' glove alone is worth the risk both for the Braves and anyone else. Unless he has a physical breakdown, at worst you just put him in CF and have him bat 8th. He rediscovers his offensive game and you can move him up. He's in Francoeur territory when it comes to plate discipline, but his contact quality at its peak is so much better than Francoeur's ever was. The problem when he's scuffling is that the Braves have half a line-up that's filled with guys who should be hitting 8th or 9th.

Even when Harris was great, here's his numbers on today's date in 2023...

It's just really a shame that the braves don't have guys to carry the team till Harris gets to his time of the season.

If Harris had a .739 OPS right now, no one would be saying shit about him. In fact, given his excellent defense, we'd probably be having arguments about whether or not he should be in the ASG.

Well no crap. In 2023, that was basically an avg hitter, which would still be great. A .739 ops is probably well over avg now.

Michael Harris after July 7th the last 2 seasons...
2023: .317/.348/.507, 128 wrc+, 4.0 bb%
2024: .283/.318/.506, 125 wrc+, 4.2 bb%

Doesn't look like bb% is important for Harris' success. It actually went down the past 2 seasons as his success went up.

Maybe he, ozuna, Olson, Ozzie, Riley, catchers, and Acuna are all about to go 2023 together from here out.
