Minor League Thread Part Deux

Really struggled in his initial DSL year last year but has been hitting the cover off the ball this year
After following his early-DSL season in 2025, I figured he might get to come stateside. K-rate and BB-rate much improved while not sacrificing power. I'm leery of guys who repeast lower levels, but he's young and if he keeps this up he will be in the mix with a bunch of the other younger OFs.

Eric Hartman and Isaiah Drake are the position players I am most interested in for the rest of the season (well other than the recently drafted players). Hartman just recently came back from an IL stint and since his return he's hitting .290/.353/484 (.837 OPS).

Isaiah Drake is repeating A ball, so ideally you would like to see the numbers be a little better. But he plays pretty great defense, is very fast, and he has shown nice plate discipline this year with a 11.6% walk rate. He's riding a hot streak right now. Wish I was lived close to Augusta to see him live.

Perdomo was 5-6 tonight
I'm happy for that kid. According to Gaurav, he had an EV of 103 on one of the singles and hits to left, center and right. I wrote about him and Guanipa last week and if they can continue to show the adjustments just slightly, they will be fine as prospects. I guess drafting 10 SS's will light a fire....😂.

FCL season ends on Friday and I wonder if they will move Perdomo up to Augusta. On the one hand, he needs swings in competitive situations, but on the other I'm guess that Lodise will start there shortly along with Miller and Williams. Not a lot of room. It's only one game, but it's unfortunate that Perdomo couldn't have put together a more consistent and impactful season to warrant moving him up to Augusta without question.

I honestly don't know why the FCL season ends when it does. I just think baseball is making some serious mistakes in the player development area. Moving the draft from June to July truncates the time draftees will get their first taste of pro ball. Add to that, the elimination of Short-season A ball that gave college draftees and second-year high school (and sometimes international) players an intermediate step for development. And now we see the FCL season end a week-and-a-half after the draft. It makes little sense to me.

When it comes to the international guys, I'm usually about a 3 year in kinda guy. International guys have so many things working against them including, level of comp, training conditions, age, language barriers. They get in the system and play against much better players who've played against better comp. Throw in an injury or a lost half season and you're going to get inconsistent results. There are studs from that part of baseball, but the failure rate is high too.

I said all that to say that all I wanted to see from Perdomo and Guanipa was a season of health. I knew they'd take their lumps but they are making adjustments and that was also a thing to watch. Perdomo has good bat speed. But he swings at everything and his tendency to swing at pitches outside the zone because he could get to them produced some weak results. I'm not like others that seem to question his bat speed. I don't. Patience, pitch recognition...yes. Availability is a thing so I do think he'll get better and better. If nothing else, solid.

Lastly, to 50's point i think development has taken a serious hit in some cases. Between less teams, and the true short season for draftees, it's a challenge. I haven't really cared for the hitting philosophy, but then again I don't know it. Bobby Moore was the last guy I liked in his approach to correcting bad tendencies. The will be a logjam at SS soon. There will be separation as well. So I'm leaning on that and hoping the system will follow.

Burkhalter in AAA today

5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 1 WP

Braun in AA:

3.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR

De Grandpe in Rome:

4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

Mejia is currently pitching the 2nd game in AA right now.

My rule of thumb is bascially "Have the player playing in AA by the time the 40-man decision on him has to be made." When they went from 4 years to 5 years for guys younger than 19 to be protected on the 40-man, it was a bit of help for the international guys but when you eliminate short-season A ball, it undercuts that.
