Minor League Thread Part Deux

At great personal risk of this being misconstrued as suggesting the Braves didn’t need pitching depth…

But it appears the quality of the upper minor league pitching is much better than anyone thought going into the season.
I am too lazy to go back and find it, but I believe I suggested that very thing a few weeks ago.

I also acknowledged that we all wished AA had brought in another pitcher.

I don't think the rational thinking was about minor league pitching though. We know we have that. The propensity for the mlb starting rotation to break down, and then inherently depend on "hope" was more of an issue in my mind. The rush jobs have to stop.

"The kids will tell us when they are ready..." I gave it credence then and I do now. So yes...beating the horse to death about AA'S abstract failure to acquire another SP was warranted. So now we move on and enjoy the upper levels of pitching and "hope" we don't need the young'uns too soon.

Idk Deester- the rush jobs have worked out at a really high rate have they not ?
I’m referring more to situations like Fuentes than I am anything. As much as I love JR, Fuentes, Murphy, etc., they need more seasoning and I understand that they’re having success in the minors. It’s a two-way street. I believe that you can learn in the majors, but I don’t think you should do that under the gun like Fuentes was last year. For no reason.

Sometimes players need to fail to get better. Sometimes they are resistant to change if they are currently having success. Kelenic is a good example imo with the Mariners. He was crushing the minors and got into a dispute with the team over not promoting him. Then he fails in the majors and instead of it humbling him he went the other way and acted bitter about it. I wonder if that attitude is why the Mets traded him in the first place. Francouer is another good example but he was more a victim of early success that went to his head.

Other than Didier proving his shoulder was healthy I dont know whats changed. Its next year that we should have really good depth. Thats why I tried to tell people not to expect us to sign or trade for any SP after this year. None of our SP are FA after this year. At the risk of summoning the chef, we have Sale,Strider, Schwell, Lopez, Holmes,Waldrep, AJSS, Fuentes, Ritchie, Elder and Wentz with Baumann/Murphy at AAA and Cam at AA.

Did you just list out a bunch of pitchers that presumably will be on the Braves’ roster? You’ve done it now.
