Minor league thread

I don't think Waters has any real value, so I would trade him for whatever AA needs.

Benintendi is a perfectly good OF target.

We will have to disagree on that. Waters still has tools and not old. He has talent and is the type of lottery ticket you could use in another deal to get a real guy.

Benintendi does not have a lot of surplus value IMO. I don't think he's worth waters. I'd rather waters as the third piece in a deal for an actual guy.

Benintendi is my ideal target. What do you think would be a fair offer?

Like Russ says, Waters might be too much for a couple months of Benintendi. I just wouldn't care at all if Waters was dealt.

I imagine Benintendi would be a little more costly than Duvall was last year, and his cost was Alex Jackson. What's a little bit more valuable than Alex Jackson (a 25 year old 45)? Probably Drew Waters (a 23 year old 45+).

So you trade for benintendi, do you platoon ozuna and Rosario? Move Acuna to cf? I'm just confused on what you do with Rosario if you acquire AB

The Braves found a way to make it work last year when they traded for 4 outfielders.

Acuna is the only DH/OF currently not a liability in the lineup. Add Benintendi (or some other OF) and if everyone else starts to hit (Ozuna, Harris, and Rosario) then so be it. Everyone would stay fresh.

I guess so. Just seems to be a cf would be a better target

Ozuna would be the full time DH, Benintendi LF, Harris CF, Acuna in RF with Duval and Rosario as bench pieces and guys to spell the other 3 and get a DH opportunity a few times a week.

Sounds good, but the braves basically have starters, and those guys rarely rest. Seems you'd have an 8 million a year bench weight

Michael Harris is at +3 OOA in 10 games. Eye test matched this as well. He is a defensive stud. I think once the bat catches up he is going to be a fixture in the lineup that you can platoon with Duvall against tough lefties.

I suspect in the scenario you are painting, either Rosario or Duvall would be moved for a bag of used baseballs, or DFA'd. I doubt the Braves would let their presence stop them from such a dramatic improvement in the team.

Harris has been stinging the ball but right at somebody. I’ve been impressed with him so far.

Luckily Duval is gone after this year. Like Cheff always says, Rosario should have been a 1 year deal only so we’re stuck with him next year being the main bench piece.

I think Ozuna should be Designated, but not as a Hitter.

If it were up to me, Rosario would not be on this team. So if it got to the point where I was trading for Benintendi that would mean either Harris flopped, or Rosario never made it back, or Duvall continued to be terrible.

It is entirely possible Rosario comes back and starts hitting, Harris performs, and/or Duvall figures it out. At that point getting a guy like Benintendi isn't needed, but I'm not overly confident all those guys are playing well by late-July.

This is probably how it would work, with Benintendi in a semi-platoon with either Duvall or Heredia.

I don't see a place for Rosario personally, and I really wish AA hadn't given him 2 years.

Harris has been pretty bad in a small 38 PA sample.

His average exit velocity is 2nd worst on the team among players with 20+ PAs, ahead of only Rosario. He's also only walked 1 time, which is a bit Frenchy-like.

I think it was pretty clear he needed another ~100 PAs at the MiLB level, and we are seeing the results of rushing him a bit. Only time will tell if he has what it takes to make progress at the highest level of the sport.

Braves OF prospect Drew Waters went 4-for-5 with a homer for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
It’s the fourth homer of the season for Waters, and the third in Triple-A with the other coming in his rehab assignment in Rome. The 23-year-old missed time with a hamstring injury, but he’s been relatively solid in his time with the Stripers with a slash of .283/.323/.443 in 88 at-bats. Once considered among the best fantasy prospects in the sport, Waters has seen his stock drop because of contact issues, but he is a player with significant speed as seen in 74 career steals in the minors, and when he does put bat to ball, the contact is often hard. He’s no longer a must-roster fantasy outfielder, but there’s absolutely reason to keep an eye on him.

This is exactly the reason why you don't give up on a guy like Waters. As frustrating as his contact issues are, he is a very good defender, a terror on the base paths, and his EV is quite good. It isn't like he's a Braxton Davidson type of prospect where he only has 1 skill. It literally would not take much for Waters but a valuable player, at least while he's cheap. And he's still young enough to figure things out.

And just like that Harris had two 94+ MPH hits yesterday.
