Minor league thread

Most important name on this thread - to me - is Vodnik. He is going to be a star. The big club could use a new addition to the night shift to give Minter some rest and with Matzek out, etc.
He could also end up being trade fodder for the extra bat come summer time…..
I started following him when Hank Aaron spoke so highly of him when he first showed. That impressed me, and he has been damn untouchable since the move to the Venters/Kimbrel career path.
(Plenty of crack at my house these days)

Vaughn Grissom, SS: 3-4, 2B, HR, BB, SB, 3 RBI .281/.390/.430

SB was home

Probably more important than Grissom at this point - Shuster keeps cruising. 6 more IP (1 ER) drops his line to 2.14 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 43 Ks, 10 BBs in 42 IP for the season.

Looks like Alex kept the correct Wake Forest Pitcher as well (so far anyway).

Good report on Shuster. Hope it's true. It sounds a little too optimistic though. https://tomahawktake.com/2022/01/05/atlanta-braves-prospects-jared-shuster-scouting-report/

Yeah - I don't think anybody's being realistic if they hope for him to be anything more than a #4/#5 SP if everything works out.

The optimistic take I have is that he sounds much closer to Anderson than the rest of the arms we have that give you a good start followed by 3-4 rough ones. The fastball is a tick below Ian's, but plays well at the top of the zone and he has the wipeout change. The problem with Ynoa/Muller/Davidson is that they can't throw the change to save their lives - so if they're not hitting their spots with the much harder to locate slider, hitters can spit on everything that isn't a fastball.

I just have slightly more hope for Shuster than the other guys because of the pitches he DOES have - if he can develop his slider/curve/anything else into simply a "show-me" offering like Ian has he has more of a chance to be a back-end starter than they do.

Time for an update:

AAA
Shewmake (24) has 122 ABs and is at .295 with a .786 OPS.
Waters (23) has 49 ABs and is at .286 with a .743 OPS.
Nolan Kingham is outperforming all the pitching depth. In only 2 starts he has the 5th most IP and has turned in a 2.31 ERA with 20K and 2 BB.
Mullers K's are up and BB are down, but he is suffering from some bad luck as he has a .357 BABIP currently.

AA
Harris is closing in on 175 ABs. .297 with an .862 OPS. He needs to be in AAA.
Shuster is ready to be challenged as well. With Touki and Ynoa not getting it done in the AAA rotation, it may be time to put one of them in the pen and give Shuster his shot at AAA.

A+
Grissom: .271 with a .785 OPS.
Cody Milligan: .328 - .895 OPS.
Justin Henry-Malloy: .308 - .895 OPS.
Landon Stephens: .254 - .942 OPS.
Tyler Tolve: .293 - .802 OPS
Luis De Avlia: Walks are down for the 20 year old holding his own in High A.
Andrew Hoffmann: No idea what he throws but the 6'5" 22 year old strikes out a bunch of high A guys and doesn't walk very many.

A
Brandol Mezquita: .336 - .857 OPS

Good job Ocala. Yeah it’s time Harris and Shuster get sent to AAA bc they have nothing left to prove where they are. Mezquita is super interesting. He’s hitting everything and hasn’t had a stretch where he didn’t hit. Harris, Grissom, Shuster, Mezquita, and Shewmake are the 5 I think has the best chance to impact the team at some point, not just this year.
