The Smith-Shawver thing reminds me a lot of Jose Capellan's meteoric rise almost 20 years ago.
Yeah. Fortunately we have data showing that unlike Capellan, you can't level a shelf with Smith-Shawver's fastball.

Dang 50. You had to mention him....lol. If you swung a bat on a flat plane against him...you could hit moonshots off of him. He did have the prettiest straight fastball I've ever seen. The Smith-Shawver thing reminds me a lot of Jose Capellan's meteoric rise almost 20 years ago.
Welcome to the coveted position of "guy I most want to see MLB Statcast data". I'm sure AJ is very excited for the honor.
No, all we get are secondhand reports of this data. That's how we get dumb statements like "Ian Anderson only has 1700 RPM on his breaking ball". So I don't trust any of those values, no matter where I see them.
It will take 1 start at the MLB level to give us a very clear idea of what AJ is...or isn't, just like every other SP who makes their debut.

Hey Scheff- does the savant data for these minor league games not work for you ? Is it unreliable in your opinion? Or other ? Now, while it’s easy to access and etc - I don’t know enough to make sense of it, but am curious as to why it isn’t satisfactory to you ?
And just we are clear - not trying to argue or anything- just genuinely curious -
Is it just not the type of data you are looking for ?
In person to watch AJSS tonight in Memphis.

Will do. If he sucks it’s not my fault…

2200 rpm is not very good on a FA.
That's pretty cool that you get to be there for this one
