Minor League Thread

I've always found the Workinger situation interesting. Didn't play high school baseball (went to an online high school) and played for a travel team instead. Put up some above-average numbers at a couple of showcases with sprint speed above the 95th percentile. Played during the COVID-shortened 2020 season at San Diego City College (community college) and put up really solid numbers there (.387/.465/.600/1.065). Wasn't drafted and signed with the Braves for the paltry bonuses that were handed out to non-drafted players that cycle. OF/1B/DH Landon Stephens who is playing for Mississippi and 1B Bryson Horne in Rome also signed after not being drafted in 2020.

The puzzler about Workinger to me at some level is why he decided to sign as a free agent. He's just come off a promising--if abbreviated season--and doesn't return to school with a chance to get drafted the next go-round and likely get a bigger bonus. Part of it may be he was working out under the tutelege of former Blue Jay and Brave OF Reed Johnson. As it is, he won't be 22 until after the season and in a system with next-to-no OF prospects, the needle at least registers for him. The uptick in power numbers this year is interesting.

Benitez turning it around. Average up to .269. Not walking a ton, but isn't striking out much either.
I'm learning to temper my prospect overzealous behavior with these guys, but wishing on a star is not irrational unless you don't realize they won't all pan out. Benitez was jewel for the Yankees until they ran out of money for him, so here's hoping he turns out. Promising days for sure though.

Anyone see anything about Luis Guanipa, the Braves' top signing from the last international signing period. He left a game last Thursday or Friday after one AB and isn't in the line-up again today.

Why would someone want to post a blatant lie about a minor leaguer on the board?

I just don’t get that.
