Strippers are playing a real team this week, so it will be interesting to see how all those 'great starts' pan out this week. AJSS wasn't horrible but def not great.. 5 inning of 3 hit ball with 6 K's... but gave up 3 ER because of 3 walks...

Yeah. I wasn’t being really serious. They have a few problem kids in there but overall that pen is pretty nasty. I might be just as hyped about the kids name as his stuff.

I see the Justus Sheffield experiment is going swimmingly, with an ERA of 7.42 between AA and AAA.
Man, what happened to that dude? How do you go from being one of the best prospects in baseball that had a half way decent start to his career over 2019-2020, to not even being able to get AAA hitters out?
I mean even Newk still dominates AAA as a 30 year old.

The are some real intriguing arms in the system that unfortunately can't throw consistent strikes. The elevated ERA'S, WHIPS...etc, are all the byproducts of being all over the place. As a side note though, some of the progress with a few arms have been promising. Precisely, Murphy and Lara. Murphy still has a lot to get to in order to be successful, but seeing him improve has been good to see. Lara can bring it. Seeing him get stretched out and pitching deep into games is nice.
I like Jared ok. He has a good arm. Hoping his game takes another step forward.

Dominican Summer League and Florida/Arizona Complex Leagues regular seasons ended yesterday. Braves FCL entry is in the playoffs, facing the FCL Mets in the semifinals of the league championship series today. Braves' Dominican League team finished 15-36 largely due to the pitching staff's 6.60 ERA and walking more batters than striking them out.
It's always difficult to discern that much from performance at that level unless it's really good or really bad, but Braves actually got pretty decent statistical performances out of SS Mario Baez, IF John Gil, OF Luis Guanipa, and C/1B Luis Parababire. Baez, Gil, and Guanipa each stole more than 20 bases. OF/1B Carlos Monteverde and OF John Estevez received the second and third highest bonus amounts after Guanipa and did alright but both had OPS < .700. Big thing I noticed this season is that the K-rate was way down from previous years and the BB rate was way up. I discount walk rates at the lower levels because the pitching is so uneven, but it was still a pleasant surprise to me to see a better contact rate.

Good post 50. I like the initial things I've heard and read about Baez. In the few videos I saw, he's got a relaxed hand setup and a quick path to the ball. But Alejandro Machado taught me long ago to pump the breaks until they're stateside above A. Lol. There are guys to dream on for sure though.
