Maybe people would respond better if you didn't call people "numbnuts".
You have no idea about my nuts.
I do think our depth is much better this year, but still a concern obviously.
Can say the same for every team though.
The depth 6-8/10 is better. 1-5 is not.

I'd take this year's group (Minor, Medlen, Beachy, Teheran, Wood, Floyd) over last year's (Hudson, Maholm, Minor, Medlen, Teheran, Beachy).
In both cases we had one guy due to come back mid-season (Floyd and Beachy).
This year's versions of Minor, Medlen and Teheran are more established than last year's. Wood is an improvement over Maholm. Beachy this year versus Hudson last year is a push.

I don't understand people using this as an excuse. A lot of teams have bullpen issues. Does that mean a contending team should not worry about fixing their bullpen? A lot of teams have defense issues. Does that mean a contending team should not worry about that, either? etc etc
Who do we actually need to worry about? Nationals, obviously. Then the top three or four contenders for the two wild card spots. Outside of that--and even more than those teams--Wren needs to worry about the Braves. He has made some great moves for the life of the team, but hasn't addressed any of the immediate issues.
Preseason 2013 vs Preseason 2014 (rotation)
Hudson > Minor (I would have it equal or perhaps a slight advantage to Minor if not for him already hurting)
Medlen > Medlen (We expected a lot more from Medlen last year--after his amazing finish to 2012--than we do this year)
Minor = Teheran (Perhaps a slight advantage to Teheran here, though his high innings last year really hurt)
Maholm > Beachy < Wood (Beachy is a huge injury concern and we expected a lot more from Maholm than we got - I expect much more out of Wood than that, but he likely won't be in the rotation at the beginning and will have to be stretched out when he is finally needed)
Teheran > Garcia (What more needs to be said?)
Before the season, the 2013 depth 1-5 was obviously better than what we are currently looking at for 2014.
It is a managerial issue.
You are right about that.
What we will hear if no other additions are made -
"Garcia pitched great for us down the stretch and in the playoffs."
"We would like to limit Wood's innings."
"The bullpen needs another LHP."
That, combined with Garcia's contract clause, practically guarantees him the #5 spot as long as he doesn't die or kill someone.
Line me up on the Dalyn side of the equation. No one has great depth these days. That's why Hudson got the outrageous contract that he got (and why he's not in Atlanta). We can talk about Martin, Hale, and Northcraft, but does anyone here want those guys getting 20 starts combined and still think we can contend? Heck, I'm not that comfortable with Garcia.
We've graduated a ton of guys in recent years, which is why the rotation is so young, but there's not a lot in either Gwinnett or Mississippi that I would feel comfortable enough with in the rotation on an extended basis. Wren does a good job scouring the waiver wire at the end of spring training and maybe there'll be some filler for Gwinnett available then.
Yeah, there's not much downside to it, and as you've said, dumpster-diving has been a bit of a specialty.
Who knows. But the Braves did get 30 starts between Beachy and Maholm in 2013. They gave us 183 innings with a 4.42 ERA. Which was good for an era+ of 88. So the Braves got 30 starts of crap overall and still won a ton of games. It can happen. And if one of our starters is out for a good period of time before the trade deadline then a deal will be made. I have no doubts about that.
I'm sure Minor is just thrilled that his urethra problem is national news.

I think Beachy and Maholm are a much better brand of crap than the three guys I mentioned.
