MINORS THREAD FINAL 4/7 .. Links to Games current

Jackson allowed 4 SB and had a passed ball tonight. Did anyone watch and see how he looked behind the plate?
 
Watched newk tonight. He is legit. His problem is he loses his fastball command and misses up and away or just up. He then gets hit. When he is. Commanding inside and low. No one can touch him.

Yep. If he could improve his command even a reasonable amount he'd be the number 1 pitching prospect in the game and it wouldn't be close.
 
Got to listen to the Wilson start. Man he was on. He had only 2 three ball counts. Gave up a solid double and then just shut everyone down and did it easily. Grounders. Pop ups. And Ks. Dude was awesome.

And it wasn't like he is crazy wild. Just loses mechanics and leaves things up. He seems to do this versus righties and maybe for about three batters. Then he just gets it back.
 
See this is not true. There are better pitching prospects out there with poor command who still dominate.

I would understand him getting exposed in the majors due to poor command, but he should not struggle with minor leaguers to the degree that he does.

He may throw 97, but I suspect that hitters pick it up well. He doesn't have deception.

Are you watching him? He generates tons of deception. Guys watch strike three and just stand there. They flail on the curve down and in. His command is mechanical. If he fixes that within games then watch out

The path I'd like to see for him is half a season each in High A, AA and AAA before getting called up. And I would want to see him have success at each level before promotion.

If you think about player value it is concentrated in the pre-free agency years. You want those years in the majors to be peak production years as much as possible, rather than learning years.

Herbert was ranked at or near the top of the catch-and-throw guys in the 2015 draft. His bat will be the question. Cumberland caught at Cal, but a number of scouts wonder if he has a major league future at that position. His bat plays, so it would be great if his catching skills would develop. I'm surprised Tanner Murphy isn't splitting time with Morales in Florida.
