MINORS THREAD FINAL4/27 ... Walkoff HR for Franco

Sims could be pitching his way into the 2018 rotation.

Would be nice to see him or Newcomb manage to overcome their control issues and become consistent starters. Either have the talent to do so. But as Deester said, Sims has done this for 7-8 start streaks many times over the years, I'd need to see him do it for a full season before I get excited. Hopefully he can/has turned the corner.

Alex Jackson throws out a base stealer to end the inning. Three scoreless innings for Gohara with five Ks.

'best case scenario - late innings reliever'

Why? How in the world is that his 'best-case' scenario? I get being down on Sims, I get the command/control wanders like a hobo in Vegas... but he's 23, still strikes out a lot of batters and in AAA this year has a .72 WHIP and a .129 BAA..... his best case is still firmly in the rotation IMO.

Because I don't think he has the command to be in a MLB starter. His strikeout ability is more suited for late innings reliever.

I would love to see the Seattle player development department exposed with Pike/Gohara/Jackson succeeding. All 3 of those guys have started their Braves careers on the right foot and could really come back to bite the Mariners

Self scouting is often the most important scouting.

He certainly hasn't shown the command yet. But to say best case is reliver is not accurate IMO. Unless you thinks it's possible for a young pitcher to refine control there is a scenario where his control improves slightly and he is a potential MOR pitcher.

Anything is possible. I just don't believe it will happen.

So weigel strikes out the first five batters. How is it possible to have this much pitching?

Why does it matter? He's already been written off.

It's amazing how butt hurt people get over an opinion.

Unless you think every single one of our arms is going to become an ace, then I think it's OK for people to have opinions on the ones that won't make it

By trading a huge amount of young quality assets for pitching, and using your high draft picks exclusively on pitching.

Hopefully a few of them pan out.

I'd rather have gone the Cubs/Astros strategy... but the FO is omniscient so I have faith they will nail it

Of course most are going to fail. I just think its absurd to write-off a 18/19 year old who has barely even pitched yet.

Who was the hitter that was available via trade or in the draft that the Braves should have drafted. Where was the Bryant/Schwarber/Correa/Springer/Bregman? The Braves have been incredibly aggressive in the Latin American market. Isn't that not enough? They could potentially have 3 hitters in the top 50 next years top prospects. They traded from their pitching surplus to get a very high ceiling bat. Is that not enough? How many do you want? This is a more balanced approach then you would think.

Cubs strategy was spending a lot of money on free agents/international market and buying low in trades.

I just answered your question...

The Braves traded Heyward for a pitcher.

The Braves traded Upton for a pitcher

The Braves traded Gattis for a pitcher

The Braves traded Simmons for a pitcher

The Braves traded Kimbrel for a pitcher

The Braves traded $10M in cap space for a pitcher

The Braves used the 14th pick in 2015 for a pitcher

The Braves used the 28th (their second) pick in 2015 for a pitcher

The Braves used the 3rd pick in 2016 for a pitcher

The Braves used the 40th (their 2nd) pick in 2016 for a pitcher

The Braves used the 44th (their 3rd) pick in 2016 for a pitcher

That is why the Braves have so much pitching.

Heyward turned into Inciarte/Swanson

Upton yielded us Fried/Gohard/Du Peterson (showed a lot of promise)

Gattis got us Ruiz (meh)

Simmons yes

Kimbrel was a bad move to get rid of Melvin

So again, where were the hitters that were available? Its easy to say Braves traded for pitching and didn't try for hitting without knowing the discussions. Its all speculation. They traded these guys and picked the best available players. Can you really be upset with the 15/16 drafts at this point? The 15 draft has the potential to be the type of draft that keeps us int he postseason for 6-8 years.

Dude... you asked a question and I answered it. How do we have so much pitching? We traded nearly every asset we have for pitching. That's how.
