They have been so bad for years. It truly is a shame to waste Trouts career on a garbage team that will have one made the playoffs 1 time when it is all said and done.

Adding in the contender's premium plus the added bonus of having room for an extra roster spot would push that higher. Strider as a 4 WAR pitcher would be more than double that. But nobody is going to value Strider as a 4 WAR guy based off 70 innings.

If I were the Angels I would be trying to have serious contract negotiations with Ohtani. If it's clear he's going to test FA then I think you have to move him at the deadline. His value would never be higher and they have to know they have no chance to contend next year.

Because I'm dumb Ohtani's surplus value is closer to 70-80 million but the point still stands regarding Strider.
