MLB optimistic about starting season in late June

I just can’t see them doing realigned leagues with the issues the DH will cause. The NL teams weren’t prepared for a full time DH this soon, and AL teams aren’t prepared to have their pitchers hit as often as they’ll have to if they go the “home team rules” route.

the dh is literally not even in discussion about this

it would be the last and easiest thing to deal with

no one pointing out that it would give the Braves the opportunity to be the first team to ever win a division title in the west, central and east?

The 1918 Spanish Flu infected 1/3 of the global population and killed 675,000 people.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-pandemic-h1n1.html

It had no impact on the 1918 season. Only WWI caused the season to be shortened.
I see video of NYPD beating people to (and on) the ground for failing to adhere to social distancing and have to wonder how in the world we have become so fearful of a disease, that unlike the Spanish Flu, is largely not dangerous to the majority of the population that such behavior by those in authority is not causing a massive revolt against oppression of civil liberties.

You realize that maybe if they had been more proactive with shutting things down in 1918, 675,000 people may not have died, right?

Also, the worst part of the Spanish Flu was the second wave in the fall. We aren't anywhere close to that part of this pandemic yet. We don't know how many deaths will end up being caused from COVID yet, we are still in the very early stages and don't know enough about its seasonal behavior yet. We already are encroaching on 70,000 deaths with social distancing and shutdowns. I can guarantee you that number would be quite a bit higher in this first wave without the proactive behavior. It's pretty simple to see.

Also, the NYPD is not beating people for failing to social distance. That's ridiculous... maybe some misleading or fake YouTube videos out there... but that's what you get for trusting random videos for "news"

The incident you're probably referring to, you probably didn't read the whole story... the group had a bag of weed out in the open visible and started acting aggressively and threatening the officers. I'm sorry, if you are breaking the law and threatening and acting aggressive to a police officer, you probably deserve a beating. If the video shows the officers used excessive force, they will be dealt with, but the people involved were blatantly breaking the law and it had nothing to do with COVID or social distancing and the incident would have happened anyways. They had a bag of weed in plain view, were resisting arrest, and threatening the officers... that has nothing to do with oppression of civil liberties.

Some sort of a round robin tournament like the College WS would be cool to see.

I was thinking something along the lines of 16 best records seeded in a playoff. First round best-of-three, second round (quarterfinals) best-of-five, third round (semifinals) best-of-seven, and finals best-of-seven. Slotting in sufficient rest and you're probably looking at between 35 and 40 days for the whole thing, so it could start in mid-September and still be done by Halloween.

There is a rumor out there that Spring Training #2 will begin on June 10th and opening day will be July 1st with teams in their home ball parks.

No official announcement yet.

So apparently this was just the Indians telling their players what they think is going to happen. Nothing from MLB, just one teams opinion.
