MLB optimistic about starting season in late June

I'm at the point where I say just cancel the season all together. Anything we get at this point will just be silly and owners and players should take a hit for their behavior.

If we have anything, it should just be a tournament with all the teams that plays out. I would like it set up kind of like the ATP Finals. Anything else is pointless.

So they gave the players an advance and agreed on prorated salaries. Owners want to pay less. The owners need to find more revenue and longer playoffs, some fans coming back later in the season or by the playoffs, etc would help. I'd go for it. Play however many games would end the season a few weeks earlier than normal so they can get the longer playoffs done by the normal finish time. Pay prorated for the 60 or whatever games it ends up being plus normal playoff bonuses.

I think for both sides it's less about what happens now and more about what happens for the next CBA. I don't think either side considers this to be the one-off situation that it truly is.

Time to change the title to this thread, Rob Manfred says he is "no longer confident" there will be a 2020 season. This coming about a week after he said "100% there would be a 2020 season".

Per Rosenthal, current proposal is 60 games in 70 days, full prorated salaries, season starting July 19 or 20, expanded playoffs in 2020 and 2021, and players waive any greviences
