MLB Playoffs Thread

Nats, like us have a 1-yr window to win it all.

Assload of players to re-sign soon: Jordan Zimmerman, Fister, Storen, Clippard, Span, Desmond to name a few.

Although at least we have some of our guys locked up for awhile: Simmons, Julio, Kimbrel and Freeman. And hopefully one of Justin or Jason.

Storen isn't a FA until 2017.

Soriano and Laroche are both gone that saves them $24,000,000. Span could be gone (either start Harper in center and add a bat in left or let Souza play) or they could pick up the option on SPan for 1 more year before replacing him with Michael Taylor.

Brule is right, they are likely moving Zimmerman to first and letting Laroche walk.

The changes I would imagine:

Zimmerman for Laroche

2B? Cabrera says he wants to come back?

CF? I'd guess they keep Span. Could go get a player or let Souza and/or Taylor play. I think they keep Span

C? I think they stick with Ramos, but wouldn't be surprised if they make a move for catcher

Starting staff will likely remain the same

Bullpen will lose Soriano so probably pick up a mid level vet bullpen arm I would assume.

That's not entirely accurate, close though. They'll be paying Raffy 2M from 2018-2025, so in reality they're saving 17M by letting them go after this season. A lot of course, but not 24.

Nats have 83.9 M in salary for next year in 7 players. If they pickup Span's option they're at 92.4M, they have arb player in Fister (current salary 7.2 M) Clippard (Current salary 5.9M) Strasturd (current salary 3.9M) Storen (current salary 3.5M) Detwiler (current salary 3M) Ramos (current salary 2M) stammen (1.3M) Espinosa (arb 1) if they pickup all of them but I guess Detwiler that's probably what, over 35M in arb players? Got to figure about 30M total for Stras, Clippard, Fister, and Ramos. Storen probably gets a raise to around 5, others get probably 3M total.

Well, I sure as hell don't know how they do their accounting, but Soriano's contract was 14 mil and Larcoche was 12 with a 2million dollar buyout.

Espinosa is almost certainly gone.

Of course none of us know how much they will actually spend next year. They spent approx. 137 million this year which would leave them a few million to add other players. If MLB ever gets the TV deal settled between them and the Orioles then they are likely going to get a **** ton more money.

I have nothing against either of the NLCS teams. I respect both orgs. a ton because of what they've been able to do. They seem to have a concrete philosophy throughout that consistently works. They may have both been a little lucky in the past but it's much more than that.

The Cardinals in 2011 and 2012 were extremely lucky. Not so much the past couple of years though.

The thing that annoys me most (of maybe makes me envious) about the Cardinals is how they constantly churn big time contributors out of their farm system, especially guys who weren't highly touted. Over the past few years, Matt Carpenter, Allen Craig, Matt Adams, John Jay, not to mention them developing Molina's bat into a star. And their bullpen as well, tons of power arms who came out of nowhere. The ironic part is two of their highest rated guys, Tavares and Carlos Martinez, are the ones who haven't quite lived up to expectations.

Seriously?

But the Nats are fine. Good core. Only thing I see as iffy is the bullpen.

I don't think they will move Harper to center. He's been fine out there in short samples; just an option to boost the offense if they need to. They really haven't hesitated to put him out there when need be.

They have interesting decisions to make though. What do they do with Taylor and Souza, both very good outfield prospects knocking on the door.

IF JS and Hart are serious about turning this thing around, another move to get us pointed in the right direction would be to release Chip Carey of his duties and hire Ernie Johnson Jr. as full time play by play guy.

Highly doubt a new play by play guy does anything.

And Ernie has a national contract with TBS (baseball, and NBA)

It would take alot to pry him away.

I know announcers have little to no impact on the play on the field, but if we're a first class organization then we should expect the best in all facets, and apart of that is the broadcast team. Chip is among the worst announcers in baseball history and is often clueless in his observations and conveying it to the listeners.

Guess we were just so spoiled all those years, but Ernie Jr. was good when he was on Peachtree a few years back doing a few games and I enjoyed listening to him in the playoffs.

You have some fans in the country who love Chip because he is indeed Skip's son...

Maybe they'd like Ernie Jr. even more!

I do miss Ernie doing the games on PTV with Smoltz for that one season, Bobby's last season.
