MLB Playoffs Thread

I feel like KC is going to pumpkin at some point, but this one probably has some twists and turns yet to go.

5 pickoff attempts in a row.

Can't imagine the hate Fredi would get for trying that.

And what a turn of events.

That strike 3 was at least a foot off the plate. LMAO

Btw, these playoffs show there is no formula for winning in the playoffs.

You can have great SP (Det/LAD), lose.

Great hitting (LAA)

Or a mix of both (Wsh)

Playoffs are a crapshoot, always have been.

The Royals have had good pitching — particularly their bullpen — timely hitting, good defense, good base running.

Pretty solid formula.

I guess the Braves are poor dice players.

More excuses.

And yet here they are. They've obviously had it in them.

No there isn't one set formula to get this far, but there are a lot of different things that help.

This Royals team reminds me a lot of the 1991 Braves, which was a team built largely around speed and defense.

I still chuckle at those that continue to believe this is smoke and mirrors with the Royals. This team is legitimate. They won more than 60% of their games since the AS Break.

I don't think they will move Harper to center. He's been fine out there in short samples; just an option to boost the offense if they need to. They really haven't hesitated to put him out there when need be.

They have interesting decisions to make though. What do they do with Taylor and Souza, both very good outfield prospects knocking on the door.

If Taylor were a Braves prospect I have a feeling you'd highlight his insanely high K rate and his way high BABIP. Instead, he's a "very good" prospect.

The Royals are hot right now.

Moose is hitting well, Hosmer is having a great playoffs and Gordon is too.

Point is there isnt a set formula on how to win in the playoffs.

Great pitching sent LAD/Det home.

Great hitting sent the Halos home.

Mix of both sent Wsh packing.

There isnt a formula to win in the playoffs, its a crapshoot.

It didn't continue.

Dodgers had good, not great, pitching and couldn't get the hits. Tigers bullpen was awful, and it was the exact reason a lot of people didn't pick them to win. Angels didn't hit, and if I'm not mistaken, they were slumping coming in. Nationals got strong pitching, didn't hit.

The Royals are doing everything right now, and it's working.

I guess the regular season is a crapshoot, too.

WTF are you talking about?
Not hitting better than another team for 3,4, or 5 games doesn't mean a team doesn't have a really good offense. Having a pitcher get bombed one game doesn't mean he isn't a really good pitcher, or that your pitching isn't good. Short samples produce crazy results. You're insane if you think the Royals are a great team. Things are clicking right now for them, and that's great. They could very well win this series. But the Orioles are definitely a more talented team. The Nats are a much more talented team than the Royals. Things just didn't click at that moment. It happens every year with really good teams. That's why the MLB plays 162 games and not 30. And yes, even over a full season crazy things can happen. That's why you have one-year wonders, or guys that hit .330 in the first half and .240 in the second. It's a very odd sport that way, and yes, largely a crapshoot.
