MLB suspends Astros GM and Manager for a year, yuge fine and takes away draft picks.

I get the whole Coppy didn't cooperate, yada, yada. But you mean potentially completely altering a game for a competitive advantage in the games most important games (World Series) is somehow less worse than paying kids more with side deals that every single club was doing? I don't think the example of punishment is enough. First 10 round draft picks would be the death knell it seems that the Braves got for their international 'scandal.'

The international penalities we got we're the equivalent of losing a couple entire drafts. Astros got off easier than they should have.

Well we were cheating both in the international market and in the draft. Hence the punishment in both areas.

Offered Waters a car to help offset the money to be able to sign him under cap.

That was a passing comment made by Coppy. No evidence it was a real thing.

“Like what do we have to do to sign this guy, buy him a car?”

If it was proven we bought him a car he’d have been a FA like all the rest that were involved

I seriously doubt it was passing comment. It could have been turned down because waters agent said no way man. Coppy also had that debacle with that Auburn kid the draft before waters. I have a feeling things were rarely on the up and up with Coppy. He was not liked among GMs nor within his org. He was probably cheating more than he got caught for.

Both seemed independent of each other, and one was because a player went to take our offer after we had signed someone else I believe. They were one of the last to sign and one of the guys went back and forth, then wanted to sign and we were scrambling bc the money had been committed elsewhere.

Coppy never bought that dude a car. It was mentioned publicly they were happy to get him and if that's what it took to sign him, he would do it. I don't think it took that to sign Waters though.

We definitely got punished for an "at all costs" culture in the FO, that wasn't welcomed by Manfred. Luhnlow was from the same vein though.

Still- none of this earned the Braves a WS and wasn't on field cheating during a game. Heck most of those guys won't sniff MLB.

NYM media reporting Beltran fessed up to the whole deal and came clean. Also, punishment coming for CORA and maybe Boston...

Carlos Beltran has stepped down as Mets manager due to the sign stealing scandal

Now the Astros, Red Sox, and Mutts have to find a new manager with less than a month left until spring training. Hopefully Ron Washington doesn't get a call

I think it was the Mets letting him step down instead of firing him.
