MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

The point is all of those players would have been better fits and were controlled longer than Tex. It was a poor trade that are still feeling the effects of.

Why wouldn't the Marlins have traded us Miggy? The package we traded for Tex was at least equal or better than what Marlins received for Miggy. And they would have ended up much better off taking the package of spects we gave up for Tex. None of the guys they received from Detroit panned to anything for the Marlins.

I never said they were currently worth the same, just they still are worth quite a bit. And that's true. Salty is an above average catcher, Harrison has probably tripled his trade value for that time (which wasn't that much). Feliz is worth way more now than he was then. The only player who didn't end up an above average major leaguer from that trade was Beau Jones.

They've all had good, productive seasons at times and continue to play in the MLB and play important roles. Harrison was a solid pitcher before he got hurt. A solid lefty SP has good value.

Do you think the Marlins were disappointed in the return they got at the time? They were probably high on Maybin and Miller who were the number 6 and 10 BA prospects in 07. They got 6 players in total for Miggy+Dontrelle (who was on the decline). The Marlins did not settle and we will never know if our prospects would compete with the Tigers offer with us being in the same division.

Harrison's trade value is ****. Bad back. Sorry.

Feliz's trade value is not as good as when he threw 98 and was a starting pitcher. Sorry. He may work his way back to a dominant closer but throwing 91-93 right now and has a way to go.

Salty is okay. He parlayed his best season last yr in to a 3 yr deal for cheap. He may have trade value based on annual cost but does not do anything else particularly well.

We are going to have to agree to disagree. How did we feel the effects after trading away a bunch of prospects to try and win a world series in '07? Before you tell me that we depleted our system forever here is a list of our top prospects in '08, we still had plenty of talent on the farm

Braves still looking for LH relievers; have checked on Neal Cotts with Rangers, but no serious talks at moment.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation says that there are six clubs still in on Lester, per Edes (via Twitter): the Dodgers, Cardinals, Pirates, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Athletics.

I say keep what we have and give it a run. Next season we should be a lot better with some of those injured pitchers back. Hopefully that is.

MLBTR: An NL GM told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that he thinks the Cardinals, Pirates, Dodgers and Mariners are the primary suitors for Lester heading into Wednesday

I basically agree with this sentiment, although I absolutely think the team should add some basic complementary pieces; a veteran SP/RP/bench bat - nobody flashy, just some fresh (veteran, playoff experienced) faces. I won't be disappointed if we don't rope in a Price/Lester (especially at a cost comparable to Taveras/S. Miller), but I will be disappointed if Wren doesn't add anybody at all.

I think we already have plenty of veteran Laidership to go around.

Playoffs are a lottery. The main thing is to ensure we have a solid enough team to obtain a ticket. After that anything can happen. Our most obvious need by far is a lefty reliever. There are quite a few who should be available from selling teams:

Cubs: Russell, Wright
Padres: Torres
Rockies: Brothers
Diamondbacks: Perez
Red Sox: Miller
Twins: Duensing
Astros: Sipp, Downs

Tony Sipp of the Astros would be a great pickup imo.

There's maybe 1 trade I make, Because of his NTC it won't happen, but Bethancourt, Harang and Bossman for Lee and Revere. Some minor prospects involved as well of course. For the Phillies they get someone they were targeting who may just find his thing in Philly, he's really only included as a cash grab. Revere has almost no value to this trade but this trade rids Philly of someone their fans don't like.

The market for Lee is down to almost non-existent and he's crapping the bed since coming back from the DL with his Elbow issues. This trade would not likely happen for several reasons, for starters we'd have to take on salary which supposedly we can't do and it would limit us to make moves the next 2 offseasons potentially, but it would free up big money in 2017. We'd be adding one of the most consistent starting pitchers in the majors, our rotation would be one that would truly strike fear in the hearts of an opponent.

Can you imagine Lee, Julio, Santana, Minor, and Wood? PS rotation of Lee Julio Santana and Minor with Wood being in the pen to make our pen even nastier? Anyway, that's my day dream trade that won't happen for a number of reasons but probably is a "fair" trade.
