MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

Solid straw man.
The argument is whether or not he's an ace. I guess Jose Quintana is an ace, and so is Phil Hughes.
Lulz.

Based on what? Because their numbers aren't as good over the last 3 years and their stuff isn't close.....so tell me how they are as good.

But there isn't really any disputing that Strasburg has ace-caliber stuff and could easily elevate to a Top 5 pitcher in the game with a few minor improvements. So I guess I miss the point.

The point was lost because of stupid arguments. The point is, a known commodity is better than a prospect... Strasburg was the example of the most can't miss prospect ever... a once in a generation pitcher (also Mark Prior comes to mind as another example)... yet he still doesn't live up to anywhere close to the hype. Yes he has ace potential, but he is not an ace.

Allen Craig and Joe Kelly to Boston for Lackey

Wow. The Sox are a completely different looking team. They're helping their calls offensively. They don't have a lot right now pitching wise, but they are setting up well for next year.

You cannot be considered an ace when you've thrown 1 CG in a few years worth of your career.
Stras has Price beat in a few of these stats (Ks per 9 / ERA / FIP / xFIP / WAR) but anyone that would say Stras is comparable to Price is delusional. Stras has all the potential in the world, and chances are he gets there. But right now he's not in the same breath as the true aces of the game.

So when picking a pitcher you prefer CGs over Ks per 9 / ERA / FIP / xFIP / WAR?

Lulz

I didn't say that, but obviously if you're trying to win an argument, you would think your evidence is better than others... and this whole argument has nothing to do with the original point I made which is definitely a valid point... but because of dumb petty arguments, the train's off the tracks like normal.

Phil Hughes 4.48 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 4.16 xFIP

Quintana 3.48 ERA, 3.65 FIP, 3.86 xFIP

Strasburg 3.11 ERA, 2.80 FIP, 2.76 xFIP

Phil Hughes 4.48 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 4.16 xFIP

Quintana 3.48 ERA, 3.65 FIP, 3.86 xFIP

Strasburg 3.11 ERA, 2.80 FIP, 2.76 xFIP

Those aren't Strasburg's stats this year... and again, this has nothing to do with the original point anyways... I'm sorry you were a bit butt hurt because I mentioned that maybe your goldenboys aren't world beaters yet afterall.

All very similar this year.

So one year? Strong argument.....

Anyways....over the last THREE years

SS has a xFIP of 2.80
Q has a xFIP of 3.85
Hughes has a xFIP of 4.00

It's not really close.....but yeah, whatever you say.

Well it is kind of important to look at this year since its his first full healthy year since coming back from serious injuries and he's not the same pitcher... its not fair to just average all 3 years when you add in the dominance before TJ.

Those aren't Strasburg's stats this year

Since now we go by 5 months worth of data:

Phil Hughes 4.12 ERA, 2.67 FIP, 3.27 xFIP
Quintana 3.15 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 3.38 xFIP
Strasburg 3.55 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 2.59 xFIP (best season of his career)

What are you even talking about? His numbers are top 10 this year

Is this like a Heyward alias?

This is Strasburg best season. He's pitched deeper into games! His FIP and xFIP are at career low numbers. He's 1 win shy of surpassing his career high. His walks are down significantly. Hes ks are right at career numbers.
