MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

This is Strasburg best season. He's pitched deeper into games! His FIP and xFIP are at career low numbers. He's 1 win shy of surpassing his career high. His walks are down significantly. Hes ks are right at career numbers.

Season before (so called dominance ---said by zbhargrove)

28 starts 159.1 IP

11.13 k/9
2.71 bb/9
0.85 HR/9

This season (a number 2 or a 3 type pitcher according to same guy)

10.41 k/9
2.00 bb/9
0.87 HR/9

Significantly worse ERA and WHIP... never said he wasn't a very good pitcher... but he's not an ace and he's not the same pitcher he was before TJ. And nowhere NEAR the once in a generation hype we couldn't stop hearing about (the whole point). And for about the 5th time, you aren't even discussing the original point because you're a Wash homer.

I actually think that's a pretty bad trade... that's a ton of proven talent for Lackey, who I'm not really a fan of.

I can't believe they traded Craig who's a .300 , .850 OPS+ hitter that's having a bad year for someone who'll probably be a 2 month rental. Absolutely stupid.

Denorfia is getting moved today from #Padres. #Royals and #Braves are the leaders

Denorfia would be a nice upgrade over the crap (Schafer, Doumit) we have as a 4th OF now. Maybe even can win some time BJ is getting.

No idea what he would cost, but it does sound like Wren's determned not to overpay for bench pieces.

Think Lackey's under team control next year. But I agree re the trade. Is Lackey even better than Joe Kelly, let alone Kelly and Craig?

Boston has really position themselves well for 15. They'll sign a couple of pitchers and a hitter this offseason and be ready to compete in a weak AL East.

Yeah, I just showed you that Strasburg is better and how he is better.

Unless you think that averaging an earned run every 2.53 IP versus one every 2.84 IP (and all the factors involved in an earned run; official scoring, defense, luck, park, etc.) makes a difference.

You can call me whatever you want. Its better than what you are, which is an idiot. (i.e. Strasburg a number 3 pitcher)

But look WHIP!

I have no clue how you think they are going to compete unless they sign Kershaw and Price over the offseason. They are depleted. Adding a couple above average hitters doesn't change that.

WAS.....he's not the same player anymore. Injuries have killed any power he had and isn't even hitting for average anymore.

Think Lackey is signed for only 500k next year because of some injury clause in his contract, good move for STL.

gilesfan calling me an idiot when discussing Washington players... boy that ruins my world... and I didn't call him a 3... I called him a 2 or 3 which is still a very good pitcher... still not an ace.

Lots of good talent on the market this year in regards to starting pitching. They've done a nice job of filling their corner outfield holes. They could easily sign three good to great starters this offseason.

They're clearing a full time spot for Taveras. I don't really see Lackey helping the Cards much, if any.

I like what Boston is doing, assuming they are able to sign some pitching in the off season.

I wonder what Denorfia and Benoit would take? Then try to get Russell from the Cubs. I think we could really use 2 relievers with Simmons out rt now.

A deal getting Parra and Perez would also be ideal.

Lackey is going to use retirement as leverage to renegotiate that option. Doubt he plays next year for less than 9 mill unless it's part of a new multi year deal.

Dodgers and Mariners are in lead for Price according to Bowden.

If the Dodgers get him, I'm done. I would be so pissed.
