MONDAY MINORS FINAL 6/25/18: Pitching poor Monday

Freeman's reverse split is pretty much just the HR/FB rate. It's high this year against lefties. Last year it was low.

Truth is probably in the middle.

My theory is that Freeman is probably a decent middle reliever who is getting too many leverage innings or maybe just too many innings in general. Maybe the stuff would play up a bit more with more rest and fewer uses.

Adding a left specialist certainly might help some in game management, particularly in a playoff series, but the Braves would probably do better overall by just giving a good portion of his appearances to a better reliever.

Freeman has reverse splits for his career.

Freeman's split acts as a CH, and allows him to be effective vs RHHs.

I suggested he was a sell high candidate last off season, and it appears he did just have his career season.

I expect the same to be true of Carle, and possibly Winkler, this off season.

Both GCL and DSL Braves brought their loaded bats to their respective games today. 3 HRs in Florida and 2 HRs in San Pedro de Marcoris.

Gohara left his Gwinnett start with an injury. No word what it was.

We have seen both of Gohara's risk factors in a big way this year.

Meanwhile, Mallex is plugging away as a 2 win CFer.

This was the issue I had with the trade at the time.

I was in the camp of sell high on Gohara in the offseason. I would have put him in a Yelich package asap

Evan Phillips optioned....wow.

Ha—I was just about to suggest Phillips as a potential candidate to soak some of those higher-leverage innings away from Freeman.

Ugh. Please be ok, Gohara.

And Phillips is supposed to be back, the team just needed Sims in case Folty gets shelled in his first start from DL.

I think winkler has set up guy stuff. He’s always struck out a ton of folks.

I think -- perhaps hope is a better word -- that Gohara can be a contributor going forward, but I wasn't all that giddy about the deal either. It was a "later for a little bit later" kind of deal, but I like Smith's game. Probably a really good 4th OF on a good team and a starter on a middling-or-below team, but he's decent.

PS--I think it's safe for Avilan to come back now that Fredi isn't manager. If Fredi were still at the helm, I think Avilan would call his agent and try to get one team listed on a no-trade clause in his contract.
