MORE ROY

A safety net as you describe drastically reduces the chances to reach those higher ends.

I fundamentally disagree. It reflects a lack of faith in the human drive to meaning—to create meaning, to make our lives meaningful, to meaningfully shape the world around us—to think that just because people are aided with the basic elements to live a decent life that they won't strive for something more. Even if some won't, I have great faith that more will.

Glenn Beck placing blame on Mitch McConnell for backing Luther Strange instead of Mo Brooks. I don’t agree with Beck, but Brooks would have won in a landslide had he been the nominee tonight.

It's amusing to witness Republicans who were half-in/half-out on Moore now suddenly go full bore anti-Moore.

Doesn't work that way, fellas.

With all due respect JPX this is a just intangible philosophical theory. Youve obviously proven you're a smarter man than I am but can you not see that we live in a reality with rules? Rules that are unavoidable and must be addressed. Rules that dictate you need to generate value to others so that you can earn tradeable assets to exchange for your desires. Desires that range from basic to materialist but desires nonetheless. Unless you drastically change the societal construct, something I believe you support much more than you let on, your ideas will not work and only hold people down.

That was my experience. Those family members that went any further into the safety net than WIC have never managed to climb out. Others accepted family or community assistance only when the need was greatest and most of them are now self sufficient.

Help should be there but endless help is a sign of weakness. And when it's faceless (governement) it much easier to escape that shame.

As they say, a prison can provide basic life needs (food, shelter, health care)... But some of us strive higher

I don't know man, modern day prison life doesn't look too bad anymore. Rec time, cable, someone else to clean up after you, do your laundry, and keep you fed? Not exactly the bread and water diet while breaking rocks all day myth.

Well, it’s been an interesting year in Alabama politics. Governor gets involved in a sex scandal with a woman advisor that ruins his marriage of 50 years, forced to resign, and now this special election. At least a break is coming.......

OH SHOOT!
