Morosi: Braves interested in Machado

My guess is Moose will require two players along the lines of Cumberland, Wisler, Ynoa, de la Cruz, Concepcion. One will probably not get it done. Two is an overpay, but that's reality when you are buying at the deadline. Best case would be one of the above plus a lesser prospect (organizational filler) such as Didder, Watts or Morales.

Remember that we got Gant and Whalen for Uribe and Kelly Johnson. I would argue that Moose will have value similar to the combined value of Uribe/Johnson. Ditto for Asdrubal Cabrera, who might in fact be a bit more valuable given how he has played in the first half.

The return for Machado seems right in line with what we’ve expected it to be be for months.

It’s a fair price, and I’m not sure if I would have wanted the Braves to pay it or not. Machado could have carried this team to a division title.

I would not have wanted to pay the freight for Machado. But I am in favor of paying for someone like Cabrera or Moose for what I expect the price to be and also for a situational lefty. The bang for the buck is more appealing for those kinds of moves.

Hard to say. Anderson plus stuff for Machado in addition to 1-2 BP arms would have probably made the Braves the NL East favorites.

Anderson is undoubtedly very valuable, but we must remember the bust rate of pitchers outisde the Top 10-25 when considering adding a true difference maker like Machado.

It would be Anderson plus another pretty good prospect. Someone like Waters or Contreras.

Machado would give us 1-2 more wins than Moose or Cabrera over the course of the second half.

The fact remains - that level of return (regardless which names you choose) for ANY single rental player given the Braves' situation at this point would have been beyond stupid, and if Boston and New York are offering anything more than a Cumberland-type for Moose AA needs to change his cell number NOW.

Braves need bullpen help whether it's a rental or not. Those guys shouldn't cost much.

I give up any of those two in a second for Moose. Which makes me think KC wouldn't take it.

Why? Upside is Moustakas is about a 115 wRC+ 3B with average defense. Camargo is about a 105wRC+ player with above average defense. The net gain is minimal, why give up quality prospects for him?

much better depth for guys i feel have very little chance at a major league future.

One of players listed is Wisler who's been in the majors.

I'm not opposed to bringing in Moosetacos. But I want to only do it if we're getting an amazing deal.

I didn't see Diaz on the mid-season list, but he only made 1 pre-season Top 100 list, according to BR anyways. Mays was Top 100 on every pre-season list, topping out at 61, I think.

I don't remember seeing May on the Pipeline or Fangraphs preseason top 100. He may have been on BA's, but I don't remember.

I don’t get this post

He is mentally limited.

He included a projection by me in his sig in an attempt to mock me, despite agreeing with that projection.

He is desperate to make me look even remotely as stupid as him.

That should help you understand.

I just don't get the allure of Moustakas. So far this year Camargo has hit just as good as Moustakas and has played better defense. And I don't think Moustakas is a guy you trade for to be a bench piece, which means Camargo is relegated back to his utility role. I would prefer to see if Camargo can stick. His peripherals this year look outstanding. That is why I would prefer for us to go after someone who can fill that utility role in Camargo's place. Its been mentioned a thousand times, but that is why I'm an advocate of Solarte or Cabrera.

I'm only up for it if we get an amazing deal and do our damndest to get Camargo as many at bats as possible. That would probably mean a strict platoon with Camargo at 3rd and maybe giving Camargo a few starts at SS (which is less than ideal). I would prefer someone versatile so we can give him the occasional start at 3rd/SS/2nd/LF/RF and be a pinch hitter or late game double switch candidate.

I just read something that makes me think that Gavin Lux might also be involved in this deal for Machado? So they would get back Lux, May, Diaz, and two other guys in this deal? Yeah that would be a hard pass for me if the Braves were to think about giving away a similar package. I don't know if he has made any midseason top 100 lists, but Lux has a .922 OPS in A+ ball right now as a 20 year old with good defense at SS/2nd. He could be a seriously good player.

I don't know for sure that he is involved, but holy cow what a package if he is.
