Movie Thread

I feel so sad that he passed. He was a legend, his run from Stand By Me to a Few GOod Men is as good of a run as any director producing critical darlings as well as classics and box office successes.

He's responsible for my all time favorite movie, The Princess Bride. It's an absolutely perfect film.
I mean I largely agree but for me it's This is Spinal Tap. Which I know is a silly film for an all time favorite but it's light enough to watch no matter th emood, it's duration is perfect, and it's so fucking quotable.

Saw Hamnet last week and rented Bugonia on Saturday. Hamnet is long and slow, but beautifully shot and wonderfully acted by Jessie Buckely and Paul Mescal (especially Buckley). I've seen reviewers compare it to some of Terrence Malick's work and its an apt comparison. It will receive nominations in most of the major categories, but I only see Buckley winning. She is superb.

Bugonia is the worst--by far--feature length film by Lanthimos. Like most of his work, it goes down a few rabbit holes but it tips its hand about halfway through and then its a trudge to the end. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons do well. As this generation's Meryl Streep, Stone will likely be nominated for Best Actress whether she deserves it or not. I don't think Streep should have been nominated just because "a dingo at my baby" and I feel the same about Stone here.

Damn, sadly Rob Reiner is dead, seems to be murdered. Sad, just saw Spinal Tap II last month
Unbelievably sad. The thing that amazes me about Reiner is the wide range of his oeuvre. He delivered so many different styles from madcap comedies to heavy dramas. He'll be missed.
